Home Decor is one of those rare design books that offers a broad look and fresh trends for all rooms of your home. It's obvious the author took great pains to select people with a variety of expertise to contribute and add richness to the content.

The photos are big and plentiful and the text offers practical advice for do-it-yourselfer's as well as people that might choose to use a designer. Ms. Kelly also has a section of how to interact with designer to make the experience better. I also checked out her website [...] where you can see further examples of her projects.

A must read for anyone looking to improve their nest!

I love to peruse catalogs for design ideas (Pottery Barn, PB Kids, Ballard Designs, Horchow). But books, not so much. Because, in my mind, design books fell into 2 categories: (1) campy, DIY books for "dummies," or (2) coffee table books with gorgeous photos, but the tiny text doesn't say anything helpful. So, when I received "Home Decor, A Sunset Design Guide" as a gift, I was skeptical -- and proven wrong.

This book is exceptional and stands out above the rest for as much as what it is as what it is not:

-- The book is like an introduction to design, without being too simplistic. (e.g. None of that "Step 1, Step 2...") Its contents "Getting Started," "Room-by Room Design," "Surfaces," "Palettes," "Furniture," "Finishing Touches") and their sub-topics are clearly laid out in a logical, easy-to read/follow fashion.
-- The text reads and flows well. It's like someone is walking and talking with you through, say, textures and patterns, and why X goes well with Y or Z. Also, examples are given about what to try and why.
-- There are "insider tips" from design professionals (whose bios are presented at the front of the book, as you'd find in a magazine, so you can put a face/background with the advice given).
-- There are "at a glance" sections (e.g. "Wall Finishes at a glance") which clearly lay out pros, cons, $$ to consider (in bullet points) about, for example, "wainscoting."
-- Much to my delight, there were notes about "Green Issues" in the "at a glance" sections. Hurray for finding an author who cares enough about the environment to insert a quick blurb about each medium re: how it will affect the air or carbon emission issues. Fantastic.
-- The photos are beautiful. Just gorgeous.

This is no ordinary interior design book. It is brimming with outstanding visuals and is extremely well written. Anyone who reads this book will be inspired to make improvements in their home. As the author states, "Everyone deserves great design!" This book is a rare treat that the reader will use as a reference over and over. As one who taught interior design for years, I highly recommend this book.

I LOVE THIS BOOK. IT CONTAINS A LOT OF NICE PHOTOGRAPHS OF MODERN INTERIORS AND COVERS LOTS OF ELEMENTS OF DESIGN. I LIKE CONTEMPORARY DESIGN AND HAVE BEEN DISAPPOINTED BY THE BOOKS I HAVE READ ABOUT IT BUT THIS BOOK HAS LIVED UP TO MY EXPECTATIONS.

Great book to get ideas on your home. Nothing is over the top but you find what you need at Target. We bought a new home so we had a blank slate to work with. I'll be using this book for a while. Good buy.

I recently purchased this book, and from Day 1, I've enjoyed every moment of reading it. The book is reasonably priced when considering all the information it offers. If I'm looking for any books on Interior Design, I'll certainly consider this author.

My wife and I got some great ideas from this book when we were remodeling our bathroom. The high quality pictures are fantastic.

It is limited in styles. I think it appeals to most people today but it's certainly not meant to be comprehensive.

I bought this book after I bought my first house. The ideas are great but most of them in impractical for people who are not wealthy. These books are useful for people who are really, really into interior decorating or are on their 4th house and can afford the high cost of rugs, quality furniture and furnishings that aren't cheap. It's certainly not out of reach for everyone and it gives something to aspire to.
