Editorial Reviews

Review

"A high school stadium in Texas is not simply a high school stadium in Texas but a shrine, a temple, an epicenter of small-town life more important than the Baptist church or the local barbecue joint. . . . In these pages, the legacy of the Texas high school football stadium is displayed in all its magnificence and importance. Some stadiums look as perfect as they did when they were first built. Some look a little more weathered by the ravages of time. Some are modern. Some are not. They crisscross the state as the Friday night lights always will, Dallas to Dimmitt, Houston to Happy, Fort Worth to Fredericksburg. As you look at them, the memories of what the Texas high school stadium means will go to your very roots, embedded forever in your soil. You will be profoundly moved. I was, and I’m a damn Yankee." (Buzz Bissinger, from the foreword)

A great book for anyone from the state of Texas. Covers most high school football stadiums in the state and gives you a very good look of the landscape of the state. The pictures are great and it's a good book to get you ready for the up and coming football season!

I bought this book as a gift for my son for his birthday in November----therefore I have not given it to him yet. However, I did receive the book in a timely manner and after looking it over I think he will be extremely happy with it. He is the sort who will go to ANY football game at ANY field in ANY city and with ANY teams whether he has heard of them or not! This book is MADE for him!

I first saw Jeff's photos in Texas Monthly and then again in Texas Highways Magazine. I was taken back by the simplicity and beauty in these photos. He has really given us the ability to be a part in football in a large and diverse state. In Texas, Friday Night Football Fever is a way of life for many communities no matter its size. In addition to the beautiful images taken on the 50 yard line, there are contributions from people who attended the school (for instance Colt McCoy talks about Jim Ned High School). This is a must have for any football lover.

I got this for my high school Texas football-loving husband. He was ecstatic! Great gift, especially for someone who played football or ran track in Texas because they'll recognize a lot of the stadiums!
