I used to use castor oil rubbed on my stomach when I had bad cramps during my period or was *ahem* constipated -- this really helped simply being used externally!
I now get enough fiber *yay*, but I still use castor oil for cramps and stomach aches. I also use it in and around my eyes, mouth, and on bruises:
*This helps soothe my eyes. If I use too much it can be annoying, but I like to put it in my tear duct or on my eyelashes and have it drip a little in my eye. This helps me with dry eyes, redness, irritation, and inflammation.
*This helps me with tooth sensitivity, swollen gums, and chapped lips. I like to take this and pour it along my gum lines and a bit on my lips. I will then press my gum line to my teeth and use my tongue to get it all around my teeth. I will leave this for around 15 minutes and for the next week will experience NO tooth sensitivity!
-This also helps relieve my sensitive gums!
*I also use this on bruises. At my job, I tend to get bruises around my legs from moving large objects very quickly (I'm 4'11"). Using castor oil relieves and helps these bruises disappear very quickly.
Castor oil is a very THICK emollient oil, however, I do believe it has healing properties from personal experience. I would not recommend this as a moisturizer for the entire body, unless mixed with something else as it is very thick and sticky -- however, I highly recommend using this on your face if you are just hanging around the house.Read more ›
I highly recomend this product.
I had a severe hair loss issue and using this oil helped me grow my hair back in a couple of months! Consistency is the KEY! I LOVE it and would highly recommend it to anyone. If you find yourself getting bumps on your scalp, undiluted may be too strong for you. Simply mix other olive, jojoba or another oil to ease the sensitivity.
I have used NUMEROUS brands of Regular Castor and Black Castor Oil - just look for 100% or pure and you can't go wrong with either type or brand. I have indeed posted reviews on different brands because I have used these brands. I use castor oil on my hair and my daughters’ hair and I mix my own hair products so I buy several brands as long as they are 100% / pure castor. I hope this review helps!!
I ordered this to try "oil cleansing" for my combination skin. Mixed with a few other oils (which required a bit of trial and error to find the right blend for my face), this technique has actually been amazing for my skin! It really does hydrate very nicely.
Many have recommended castor oil as a hair conditioner - I tried this and very much did not like the drying effect it seemed to have on my scalp (unexpected, right? Since this is an oil?). Anyway, it really did dry my scalp out. Coconut oil, another oil commonly recommended as a conditioner, had the opposite effect - it was pretty hard to wash out and made my hair and scalp feel greasy without a LOT of scrubbing. For hair care, I think argan oil is the way to go; at least for my hair.
Other uses for castor oil that I've found:
* Ashy ankles! Every winter, without fail, I get ashy ankles. No matter how much I exfoliate and moisturize, it's unavoidable. Rubbing castor oil into my ankles for a minute or two before bed every night and then covering with wool socks has been a miracle! This is the first time in my life I'm actually not embarrassed to welcome spring by wearing skirts which show my ankles.
* Nail care - this is a fantastic cuticle treatment! Massage into your cuticles for a few minutes a couple of times a week and your nails will look amazing! This made my cuticles very soft for trimming, made my nails shiny, and it seems like my nails may be a little stronger, but that may be more resultant from improved circulation and blood flow due to the massage than the actual application of castor oil itself. YMMV.
Wow, who would have thought I'd have that much to say about castor oil?
