Home Ice (Portland Storm Book 11) Paperback – August 13, 2015
From the Author
The books of the Portland Storm series are hockey romances, but they go much deeper than the sport of hockey. These books touch on real-world issues such as rape, cancer, miscarriage, bullying, PTSD, grief, addiction, and many other similar subjects. If you have triggers, be aware that these books may very well contain material which could trigger you. That said, I endeavor to tackle these issues with sensitivity and compassion.
Additionally, many readers have requested that I put a TISSUE WARNING on the books in this series. I've received notes from readers about every single book in the series, in which readers tell me how the characters and the story brought them to tears. You may not need tissues for each book--the story line that resonates most for you may not be the one that others responded to in that way--but don't say I didn't warn you.
On that note, I have another warning for you: my hockey players curse like...well...hockey players. And there is a fair amount of sex in these books. If cursing and sex aren't your cup of tea, these books probably won't be, either.

The Thunderbirds series is a spin-off from the Storm, featuring some familiar characters, lots of hockey action, and the same emotional backdrop, put together in a sexier, edgier package. You do not need to read the Thunderbirds series to enjoy the Storm series, although there are likely to be a few storylines that overlap to a small degree.

I have always loved Bergy, even when he acted like a tyrant most of the time, because I knew there was more to him under that crusty facade he had going on all this time. And now we all know what that driving force behind him was all about. I am so glad he finally found his soul mate, someone who brings out the good in him. He deserves his own little peace and happiness. Paige was the perfect character to pull him out of that stupor.
And I also think that Paige is one of the best female characters in this series so far. Not that the others weren't great, because they were. But being a single parent of four teenage daughters is tough enough job, but having to deal with the heartbreak and challenges of one of them having Down Syndrome, would be even tougher for anyone to deal with all alone.
Mattias Bergstrom and Paige Calhoun were, IMO- the perfect pair. And may God Bless those Babcock brothers for being so understanding and wonderful to those four young girls, but especially little Sophie.
I am so hooked and I hope this series never ends.
Paige Calhoun has brought her four daughters to the StormSkillz event and they couldn’t be more excited. All four girls are giddy over the anticipation of seeing their favorite Storm players, especially 501 – Levi Babcock. When Paige’s youngest daughter spots 501, she is off to claim him for herself and when the Storm’s head coach steps in, Paige suddenly becomes as googlie-eyed as her daughters.
Bergy is immediately drawn to the young girl and sees so much of his sister in her. He decides to give Paige and her girls a weekend they are never going to forget. Will it end after the weekend, or is there more in store for Matti and Paige?
This book tugs at your heartstrings in the most delicious way. I loved the way this story unfolded and watching the normally closed off Matti interact so openly with Paige and her girls was wonderful. Catherine Gayle has once again crafted a story that you don’t want to put down!
Paige and Bergy are attracted to each other from first sight and for Bergy he is ready to act on it. Paige tries hard to be realistic, who wants to be serious with a woman with four daughters one of which has special needs. There is so much to love about Bergy. He has had experience with Down Syndrome but I just knew, even if he hadn't he would have reacted the same. Catherine did a tremendous job at showing that a person can do whatever they want as long as they put their heart and soul into it. I cannot say enough good things about this book. I loved it and recommend both Home Ice and the Portland Storm series.
We finally learn what makes Bergy, the Storms Head Coach tick. When he came on the scene he had a rep of being a harda** when he was player and ever worse as a Coach. We finally found out what drove him and that is his sister (who has down syndrome). Bergy was never the best player but he put his head down, worked hard and didn't let nothing stand in the way for securing his sisters future. This also meant he had no time for a relationship.
In walks Paige and divorce mother of 4 teenage daughters. The minute she walked into the arena you knew that Bergy was goner. These two kinder spirits have finally found a person who understands their life. Paige's youngest daughter also has down syndrome & is the catalyst for the two meeting.
It was a quick read about two people who would do anything for the ones they loved and was searching for the one that would understand and fight together.
