This is very handy to have around.. and have used a lot of these remedies... of all the similar Amish remedies books this is by far the best I've seen... well put together and easy to find things alphabetically.

As a previous reviewer noted, this book contains remedies that would be strongly cautioned or not recommended for use at all according to traditional Western medicine standards... but as with all "home remedies", there needs to be forethought and a lot of common sense used. Afterall, we come from a long history of medicinal remedies that are no longer used either due to the doubting of their actual effectiveness, having found out unknown side affects or mere yuck factor (leaches for ailments and tapeworms to treat obesity? need I say more?). That being said, I picked this book up second hand on a whim... partly because I live near a predominantly Amish area and wanted to better understand their choices in 'medicine' and also because it had a few suggestions for treating colic in young babies (which my niece is prone to and it is taxing her parents, emotionally & physically). Although "Borax in the mouth" would definitely be one of the remedies I would nix immediately (DUH!), the method of a few drops of vinegar in a half ounce of water given prior to feedings has done tremendous things for the baby and parents. Now everyone is resting better, baby is eating better and all due to a remedy that has probably been passed down for centuries.

I would recommend it for those interested in alternative medicines for common ailments... and after consulting with your physician, take all "home remedy medical advice" with a 'grain of salt'.

This is a wonderful book filled with natural home remedies: from what to take for the common cold to weight loss the natural way, to what to do for a colicy baby. I would recommend it to anyone. Excellent resource for how to use natural herbs and foods to prevent using harsh and costly antibiotics.

This book has some really great natural remedies. I tried Listerine on my daughters acne and the pimples dried up in literally a matter of hours. Amazing!! She is one happy teen theses days. Also the simple diet that the Mayo Clinic uses for patients to lose weight quickly really works and is very easy to follow. Great book!

This is a list of all the home remedies that are out there. Not the ONE real Amish cure.

This is an interesting book. It provides remedies that may or may nor work. Have no intention of trying all of them and haven't tried one of them yet. I have enjoyed reading through this book.
