The hutch has four glass panels to slide into positions in two doors. Two panels went in fine; one had slot and frame slightly off kilter to each other, but could be worked with; the 4th would not fit at all because the slots were not deep/wide enough, and my husband spent two hours with saw blade and narrow slot screwdriver carefully whittling out what should've been there in the first place.
The top of the buffet portion is supposed to be fixed into place with eight bolts, two into each of the four upright walls. The two center sections went AOK (also the bottom of the buffet connected fine), but the pre-embedded top threaded connectors in both of the two end panels were totally out of alignment (too high) with nothing that can be done except to figure out some alternate way to secure these on our own. In the meantime, the buffet cannot be moved by picking up the ends, which is the usual way people do such.
This is a very heavy, solid wood unit (back is sectionalized thin wood...as are drawer bottoms, but not cardboard) ~ slightly off-color being reddish like between oak and cherry. We looked a long time to find something quality to be used for both display/tableware and video storage that would fit between a door, floorboard heater, couch, and ceiling beam; we are pleased with ourselves that we could make this work. It is basically lovely, but did also have some minor cosmetic damage. Only each of you would know if price and end result is worth dealing with assembly.
So now that I've said that, I must say that assembling the unit was not an easy task. I admit that I am not super mechanical, so if a piece of furniture is sent in three gigantic boxes, I do expect the instructions to be clear. For the most part, the instructions were detailed, but in a number of places, the diagrams did not make it clear which direction a piece should face and which end was up. I did have to redo a section of the buffet because I put a piece on backwards.
One of the more vexing problems was putting the drawers together. The instructions tell you to put together four hardwood pieces to make the drawer, and screw in very long wood screws --but there are no holes pre-drilled. If you expect to put these drawers together you will absolutely NEED a cordless power drill.
Also, if you want to build this piece, you will need an enormous space in which to put it together --but that space will have to be NEAR to where you want to put the furniture, because once the two units are assembled, they are very heavy.
So if you are experienced in building furniture and have strong people to lift and maneuver the assembled pieces, this is definitely worth the price.
