Update August 2nd, 2011: I stil really like this piece. I made a small modification to my unit by adding mirror above the hooks. I had it custom cut at a glass place locally to fit the area copletely, and secured it with double sided foam tape. It added the illusion of lightening it up a bit, and gives me a mirror in my entry way for people to check their hair when they come in out of the rain and wind, and also a bit more light reflecting off of it. Now it looks like some other units that are much more expensive, and the modification only cost me about 10 bucks. Looks as if it came with the original unit. Again, this unit is a very nice hall tree stand.
The cams and camlocks are a huge pain to work with. I've done assembly furniture before where the cams can only screw down so far, so that they are all even. Not so here. You are going to want to measure the cams clearance from the wood pieces to be sure they're all nice and even. For the most part, 1 inch or 7/8" worked best. In some cases though, I had to go closer to 3/4" to get a tight lock. Pain in the ass. Fit a piece, twist the cam lock, find it too loose, undo it, screw the cam down a bit more, try again, etc. You have to go into this with the right expectations, or you'll have a stroke.
Another complaint -- many of the wood pieces on the finished sides have these tiny pinholes in strange clusters. You won't notice them from a distance, but not the sort of thing I'd expect from a $300 piece of furniture.
I didn't even bother with the springs for the bench lid -- this is shoddy hardware that will only cause you trouble. Just don't slam the lid. I grew up with a real one of these benches; it had no springs. We were just careful.Read more ›
We decided on this hall tree because it fit the space we had, fit our budget, and at least based on photos it appeared to meet the minimum cosmetic requirements. I knew since it was a kit, that it was not really a frame and panel construction as its design would suggest, though that would have been our ultimate preference. A real frame and panel construction with dovetailed or mortise-and-tenon joints would have exceeded our budget. So the assurances from previous commenters that this was at least solid wood helped to seal the deal.
We received the order within the 3 days estimated by Amazon, which was excellent for such a large and heavy package. The box was filthy but intact. The packaging of all the individual components was very well done in terms of protective foam sheets and blocks, stacking, and compactness.
In terms of assembly, the instructions were clear, each individual piece was lettered, and the bags of fasteners were clearly labeled as well. My 6-year old and I spent a few minutes taking an inventory, where he would call out the letter and how many of them I should find, I would check for the pieces, and then if I said "we're good" he would check off the part in the instructions. Since there were so many pieces (25 wood pieces and the hardware), this process took perhaps five minutes (just enough to stay within a 6-yo's attention span). The instructions and the labeling of the pieces, for the most part, were well done and very easy to follow. I estimate that total assembly time would have been about 30-45 minutes maximum.Read more ›

I know it's cheap and I wasn't expecting much, but I had to get my own bolts for the lid part because the supplied stuff wouldn't work. Read morePublished 2 months ago by kyborg44

Nice product. But came in a cherry color even though the box said oak. Also one of the board was cracked when we got it.Published 3 months ago by Fun Mommy
The piece is very nice, great all-wood construction, somewhat easy to put together. There was a missing piece for one of the legs, but I made it still work. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Scott Caswell

For what we paid, this is junk. Holes are not in the right place and some holes are missing completely. Not even close to the color in the picture. Read morePublished 5 months ago by valarie steele
