The containers may reduce mess but they won't preserve freshness.

The containers are probably useful for reducing the mess associated with spills from the paper packaging the is commonly used for flour and sugar ... but that's about all they do. The lids do not form any meaningful seal so they cannot keep the contents fresh and they won't keep bugs out.

Does not fit 5 lbs as advertised

I tried fitting the flour bag( as pictured on the ad) inside the plastic holder but it did not fit so I then emptied the flour into the container and as you can see it did not hold the contents of a 5 lb bag. The plastic is not heavy or sturdy.

1. Two sizes of containers; they are nested together. Only the large one is 8.5x5 in.
2. Hinged lids do not seal like a Tupperware
3. Because the hinge is so low on the container, this limits the amount of dry ingredients stored
4. You must grasp the container near the bottom or the hinge pops open.
5. I'm going to look for a new container that has a Tupperware seal so more dry ingredients can be stored.

I should have read more of the reviews :( These are a bit flexible, so if you pick up the container at the middle the lid may pop open & the contents poof out. I can't see how a bag of flour or sugar (in the bag) could fit, but that's the only way to get the most out of these containers as the lid is deep. But that means that if you dump a bag of flour or sugar in them they will NOT fit unless it is a less than 5 Lb bag. These are OK but not what I was hoping for, I will just use them for something else as I SHOULD have read the reviews & then I would haven known that they were not what I wanted. spend the much extra money to get a larger sturdier one
