Full disclosure -- I had the privilege of meeting Gina at a conference once, and she's a truly nice person. The first time I bought one of her books, it was to be supportive of someone I liked. I've since bought a bunch more because the woman can really write! Also, the excerpt from her next book (in the end of Homecoming in November) has me nagging her via Facebook to hurry up! How long are we supposed to wait for the next one?
-Homecoming In November
We first met Terri briefly in Duet In September. She was a party girl and had a drinking problem. She went to rehab and got the help she needed and now she's back. With the help of her aunt and uncle, and many friends willing to pitch in and get her started, Terri is opening a tea shop. Gary Sullivan, the "scary bartender", is also looking to make a fresh start and becomes Terri's partner at the tea shop, as a pastry chef. He is completely supportive of Terri's endeavours and encourages her to stay "on the wagon".
Jayne (Dr. Herrera) works at a vet clinic. We first met her in "Reunion In October" (she is Dr. Bautista's new business partner at the clinic and she treated Freckles, the dog.) She's come to Snug Harbor to start a new life, away from the gossip of her hometown. She's very wary and cautious, wanting only peace and solitude, having gone through a tragic experience where she used to live.
Military hero and local semi-celebrity/"player", Iggy Zemski brings in a stray, neglected dog to the vet clinic for Dr. Jayne to treat and Iggy asks Jayne out for a date. Afraid to trust anyone, Jayne runs away in a panic. Will she ever be able to leave her past behind and learn to trust and be happy again?
This is Terri and Jayne's story...
This series of stories is all about people who are just trying to make their way through life, doing the best they can, struggling through life and somehow making it through and finding their own happiness in the end. Life isn't always perfect but when you've got people who care for you on your side, you'll make it in the end.
(I loved the cover! Gorgeous!)
What I absolutely love about this author is her command of the English language, the mature use of it in her writing, the descriptive style that allows the reader to picture everything she writes about in such sharp, clear images... She has a wonderful gift and it is truly a pleasure to read anything she writes. I also find that her story lines are original with plots that haven't been done so many times that the reader is sick of them.
I highly recommend Homecoming In November and I rate it 5 stars.
In Homecoming in November, the 3rd installment of the Calendar Girls series, her talents shine as she introduces us to new people and life situations. Terri and Jayne, are the main female characters in two different storylines in this well-written novel. They are strong women, women of character who have gone through so much, yet keep pressing forward. Iggy and Gary, each with their own heartache and issues, come into Terri’s and Jayne’s lives at the precise moment of need. What transpires are beautiful romance, life, and love stories.
I proudly give this book 5 stars and recommend you purchase and read Homecoming in November, as well as the others in this lovely series…Duet in September, Reunion in October, and Charming for Mother’s Day.
