Peter Ahrensdorf's smart and thorough analysis of Homer's heroes is incredibly well-written and accessible to even the casual reader of Homer. Moreover, his analytical reasoning and persuasive writing offer one a deeper and perhaps different appreciation for the world's foundational work of literature and philosophy.

A remarkably thoughtful and well-written study of Homer. I learned much from it and recommend it to anyone seeking a fresh approach to Homer (or to classical thought).

Absolutely wonderful. Professor Ahrensdorf resists the prevailing Parry-Lord temptation to regard 'Homer' as a random collection of fragments and assuming a 'unitarian' position offers many sound insights to aid our understanding of the poems. W. R. Higgins
