Product Description

The Honda 2000W Super Quiet Inverter Series Generator produces 53 to 59 decibals of sound during operation, which is less noise than a regular conversation. It boasts a powerful Honda GX100 engine with a 0.95-gallon fuel tank capacity. It can operate for as many as 8.1 hours on a one tank of fuel. At 46 pounds, this lightweight generator is small and compact. It is still able to produce clean, reliable power, similar to that of a standard household outlet, using inverter technology. The Honda 2000W inverter generator can also be used in tandem with another identical generator for twice the power. To protect this outdoor power equipment, Honda Oil Alert is used. This turns the generator off when the amount of oil reaches dangerous lows. It is also equipped with circuit protection to prevent overloading from occurring during operation

For my needs inverter type portable generator is the best option that suits my needs:
I wanted to have a back up power that will be easy to live with and provide enough power for the essentials (fridge, gas heat blower, lights and electronic devices).
With natural gas heat, water and kitchen oven I do not need much electricity. So my choice was narrowed down to a ~2kW easy to carry with one hand and transport in a car inverter generator. Only Honda and Yamaha generators have build reputation of quality products there are many outside of Japan companies to enter the market but none of them have consistently good reputation of their products. I did a good research when choosing between the Blue and Red generators so I can share some key points and tips if you considering inverter generator or already narrow down you choice between the honda eu2000i and yamaha ef2000is.

First of all they are very similar generators at about the same specs and price - both are great choices.
Honda pioneered the portable generator market in 1960-s and have build solid reputation and support of their products. Yamaha entered the market after honda on and seems to have more aggressive marketing to compete with honda.

Honda is using 98.5 cc engine and Yamaha ef2000is has 79cc engine and thats what makes the main difference between the two - honda is two pounds heavier and can produce 2000W for half an hour (proven) while Yamaha arguably able to provide the claimed 2000W for 30 seconds. For most people it's not a big deal as they only need max power as surge power that is under 5 seconds for starting motors or other inductive loads.

I have been researching the best generator for my needs. After reading reviews for both the Honda EU2000i and the Yamaha 2000 I have decided to buy the Honda. I live in Idaho and my wife and I love to camp. Unfortunately I have sleep apnea. I have to wear a CPAP machine and after trying to run it on a deep cycle battery I found there wasn't suffienct battery storage to get a full nights sleep. I had to run the generator for 8 hours during the day to get enough charge to last 5-6 hourI currently own a Coleman generator which I have had for about 20 years. It has been very reliable but it is noisy, too noisy to run at night if there are camping neighbors. It also only runs about 5 hours on a full tank of gas.

I found that both Yamaha and Honda are very comparible and Yamaha actually has a couple of features I really like over the Honda (fuel guage and easy oil change system) but what I learned is in Idaho at least, is if you have a problem with it, Honda has numerous trained technicians all over the state that are authorized to do warranty work. Yamaha has about 5 in the state. If someone who is not a certified technician works on it, it voids the warranty.

I live in Boise and there is at least 8 authorized dealers who can work on a Honda. There is 1 Yamaha dealer.

In the two stores I went to to visually compare the machines they were exactly the same price. $999.99. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Yamaha for any other reason than this and in your area the results may be different but it is worth finding out before you make your investment. Hope this helps.

I should start by saying that I did not purchase this product from Amazon; they were not selling it at the time. Even so, the generator that I have is the same Honda EU2000i that you find everywhere. I did a long, agonizing comparison between this machine and the Yamaha EF2000iS and I ended up buying the Honda. Both machines are EXCELLENT and will almost certainly provide you with years of trouble-free service. I'm a degreed engineer as well as a hands-on engine mechanic. So I understand the technical differences between the two machines. They are very comparable in almost every way, but there are some differences between their engine design as well as their features. Believe me, these differences are really not that important to the average end-user of this device. The main thing that stood out in my comparison was that the Honda has a 98.5cc motor and the Yamaha has a slightly smaller motor sized at 79cc. This makes the Honda slightly more powerful and able to withstand "block-loading" large loads (over 1000 Watts) as well as motor loads which are highly inductive. The Yamaha is more likely to trip the "Overload" circuit when block-loaded. However, since the Yamaha has a smaller motor it will give you slightly more run-time on the same amount of fuel. To me personally, the added run-time was not as important as the ability of the generator to withstand being hit with a larger load. This was the deciding variable in my comparison. That being said, the build-quality of both machines is really high. They are solidly-made and don't feel chintzy in any way. They are both also very quiet when compared to the cheaper inverter-generators that are out there. Neither one should give you any problems starting and usually do so on the first pull of the cord.Read more ›
