About the Author
When asked to write a short biographical note for this volume, the author asked, “How does one do this the fifth time without repetition or some prevarication to avoid it? “Just put down that I was born in Wayne County, that one branch of my family has lived here since the 1750’s, that I prefer to live here, and that I have spent many years in the study of local history and archaeology.” It can be added, however, that Dr. Leslie was licensed to teach history in Pennsylvania, that he had received two doctorates, honors causa, for his work in archaeology and history, that he had traveled on three continents with emphasis on visiting archaeological sites, and that he had been on the editorial staffs of archaeological journals in the United States, Canada and England. At the time he wrote this publication, he was the county historian of Wayne County, Pennsylvania. Dr. Leslie authored nine books on local history. These are available at the Wayne County Historical Society, other historical societies, bookstores and libraries, and online resellers. • Faces in Clay: The Archaeology and Early History of the Red Man in the Upper Delaware Valley, 1973 • The Battle of Minisink, 1976 • The Tom Quick Legends, 1977 • Honesdale and the Strourbridge Lion, 1979 • Honesdale: The Early Years, 1981 • Canal Town: Honesdale 1850-1875, 1983 • A Profile of Service: Protection Engine Company No 3, 1863-1913, 1986 • Things Forgotten: Wayne County, 1876-1889, 1990 • Honesdale and the Stourbridge Lions, 1994
