Dehydrated Whole Foods
What you see is what you get. When we say our food contains cranberries and green beans, you'll actually see cranberries and green beans that look just like the ones in your own meals - no magnifying glass or leap of faith required. We use 'whole' foods, never ingredient fractions or by-products from other industries.
100% Human Grade
Human Grade means fit for human consumption. For us, it’s a line in the sand about the quality and integrity of the finished products we send out the door. We use only the best quality ingredients sourced directly from the human food chain, and our foods are produced in a human food facility. You could say it's people food that's just made for pets.
Artificial additives, GMO ingredients and chemical preservatives are four-letter words around here. Our gentle dehydration process naturally preserves the nutrients in the food to help maintain its gorgeous color, great taste and natural healthy goodness. It's not magic - just a common sense approach to food.
When pets eat well, they feel well. Itching, scratching, upset tummies and more, can all be linked to problems eating highly processed pet food like kibble. In a survey of 6,289 Honest Kitchen customers, 75% saw digestion problems improve! (based only on customer responses with digestion problems - for information purposes only, results not guaranteed).

ABOUT THE HONEST KITCHEN:
The Honest Kitchen started in Lucy Postin’s kitchen in 2002 when she started making her dog’s meals from scratch to help combat his ear infections. The difference from his new diet was spectacular but her kitchen was a mess!
Lucy then realized that dehydrating whole food ingredients made mealtimes much simpler while maintaining the natural health benefits. From there, The Honest Kitchen was born - and her kitchen stayed much cleaner!
Today, The Honest Kitchen is on a mission to revolutionize the pet food industry through their obsession with product integrity and commitment to help as many pets as possible get on the road to good health through natural, wholesome proper food

When I contacted HK's customer service about this, Liz Black encouraged me to return the food from where I purchased it. She changed her tune immediately when I told her I had purchased it directly from them. Then Liz told me this whole story about how bugs eat through the bags depending on how you store it bla bla bla, essentially saying that it was MY FAULT that the bugs had gotten into the bags. So then why didn't the bugs get into the other box because they were stored right next to each other? And the other box was OPENED, no boring required for the hungry rascals. Idk, but if I was a bug I'd go for the free meal any day.
Oh and let's not forget this was a box of food that had not reached its expiration date yet and had sat on the company's shelves for 7 months before it got to me. Just on that principle alone, am I not entitled to at least a new bag??
I am suspicious of any company that blames its customers for any defect in its product instead of trying to find a solution to the problem. Maybe if bugs are a problem, HK should package their food in much sturdier bags like all the other pet food companies.
Also, I noticed there was no email etiquette or professionalism when I contacted this company. They didn't even say hi in their initial email response to me. What's up with that? And Liz just stopped responding to my emails. Yup, nothing says you are a valued customer like silence (sarcasm).
Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, ain't gonna happen. HK just lost a potential repeat customer.
Try Stella's and Chewy's instead. They make an excellent freeze dried raw meal topper that my dog just can't get enough of and, as a bonus, it comes in sturdy bags which bugs can't bore holes through. Bug problem fixed.
Luckily Giggles isn't allergic to Chicken so I tried the Chicken flavor, Force, first. It is awesome. Plain and simple. They love this food. My other Boston Terrier, Rabbit, inhales food but with this I have to use a puzzle bowl to slow him down.
The best part is obviously the high quality, pure food ingredients they use. But for me, the best part is the smell. NO MORE STINKY DOG FOOD! Dry, Force smells like a packet of chicken soup or Thanksgiving. The Beef Grain Free, Love, smells like Apple Roasted Prime Rib. No kidding. I decided to get the grain-in Beef recipe for my non sensitive Boston and my older Chihuahua who has no teeth--he was a rescue--and he only eats soft food now.
Mo, the Chihuahua gags on water and throws it up so hydrating this little 4lb dog is a chore. But with Honest Kitchen I can make a soup out of his food and he gets much better hydration without gagging!
Every flavor of the dog food I have tried has been a 100% hit in my home. The Grain In product is even a better value than any canned food I would feed my dogs before--like Blue for example.
Feeding my dogs is a pleasure not a chore now. No more holding my nose or stinking up the frig with a half used can of dog food. Make exactly the amount you need each time. I have on demand hot water but when we went on a trip, a microwave cup of water is warm enough in 45 seconds to mix into the dry. Easy. Images included are of Love, the Grain Free Beef dog food: Image 1: Dry in bowl Image 2: Right after water is added Image 3: Three minutes later. I choose to add a little more water than called for for rehydration. Often you can see whole pieces of vegetable, fruit and other bits.
One last bonus? Less stinky on the business end and less farts. My goodness how amazing. Walking the dog is even better now too!
Thank you Honest Kitchen for making a product I feel good about giving to my family of pets. And just in case someone is thinking it--no, I was not asked or paid for this review. It is from my heart.
"The Allium species of plants is where the toxicity lies. These plants include garlic, onions, leeks, scallions, chives and shallots. If your pet eats one of these products, red blood cells can be damaged, resulting in the cells not being able to carry oxygen."
If you're really skeptical, there's a pro-garlic article for dogs from dogsnaturallymagazine (it was the second one when I searched google). And it even says only fresh garlic could have benefits for your dog, dried garlic is still poisonous. Again, sorry I can't post links, Amazon has weirdly strict review rules.
Can I be 100% sure it was this food causing problems for our dog? No, of course not, I just discovered this ingredient was in her food and stopped giving it to her yesterday. But I can say that she was a happy energetic 2-year-old that wanted to play all the time and then over the course of a year, turned into a lazy dog that lies around, refuses to fetch, and has become prone lately to heavy panting to the point of exhaustion. I will be reporting back in a few months as we switch her foods. If you're reading this on October 10, 2017 and there's not an edit below this line, then ping me.
