My biggest complaint is the dialogue. The wording was very British, but the book was set in LA. Now the author is a Brit, so this isn't a total surprise but if you're going to write a book set in the US with Americans as your characters you need to write them as Americans. For the first couple chapters, I thought the book was set in England. Then when it was revealed that the setting was Los Angeles, I did a "what the?"
I'll pass on future books by this author.
I didn't pick up on a love connection between the H & h either. Alexis is a self centered child in my opinion. I kept thinking the book would get better but more reading just led to more "What? NOT.EVEN!" questions in my head......
2 stars because the writing itself is somewhat fluid but the book is packed with too many cheesy cliches.
A couple of times the H says he loves the h's snort when she laughs, then the h sorts and is shocked because she never snorts.
The H talks like an immature teenage girl. The word choice is just silly for any male let alone a alpha biker.
This is supposed to be about a 1% club and yet the H apologizes for lifting wallets as a 16 year old when he was homeless.
Also he paid to join a gym while he was homeless so he could get big but he had to steal to get food.
h has to go see her mother during lockdown because her mother needs structure so no visit can be missed but the mother doesn't remember that they've been there in the last year.
The mother has no other medical problems but Alzheimer's and yet even though she remembers most things she's going to be dead in three weeks? This tells me little research was done.
I get that it is had to write like a alpha biker, but this guy came across just short of flaming. His bike brother admits that he is in love with h's friend and is freaking out that she is missing and our H gets furious at his friend saying he's making it all about him. Just weird.
An Honest Mistake is the first novel I have read by L. Grubb, and while this book did fall flat at the end the writing and plot line were well written.
Each chapter had me falling for the bad boy Cobra and sweet Alexis, and while there were minor plot problems I was able look most of them over. The ending is where Cobra and Alexis fell flat - it ended to quickly and the demons wrestling in Cobra were not properly dealt with (an extra chapter or an epilogue to let us know how the friend is, the club, did they find out? A few to many unanswered questions, but overall the author is writes a story that drags you in.
I will be one clicking the second book in the series - maybe some of these questions are answered!
OK, so I really liked Cobra and Alexis a lot but felt like I was still missing something too with them! I do hope to see more of them and watch their budding romance go full bloom in the future because they definitely are each other's soulmates. My biggest disappointment was the ending, it fell completely flat for me. I was actually put off by Alexis at the end, when Cobra is in his time of need and she hears about his "secret" not from him either and then she completely abandons him without even listening to him and oh yeah, she loves him too....I was like WTH, yeah, that really pissed me off. Then he shows back up and it's all ok, the end.... Baffling.
I am looking forward to reading about Lauren and Champ and so I do plan to continue on with this series! I liked this book but there were a few things that fell flat for me:( Hoping this author brings it up a couple of notches in the future because she definitely has the talent to do exactly just that!
