We have twins and are having frozen breast milk shipped to us via fedex twice a week on a combination of wet ice and freezer packs in a styrofoam container (Insulated Shipping Containers, 13 3/4" x 11 3/4" x 11 7/8"; http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000ZJSH3I/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_6). The bags were not overfilled and were frozen flat. We found out early that some bags do not hold up well so I ordered every single breast milk bag I could and kept track of how they did (I am a scientist). Here are the results from worst to best (NOTE: this review is most relevant if you are shipping breast milk as fedex is not gentle on packages; if you are not shipping other bags we don't like might be fine but I can tell you which is best overall). Hope you can learn from our experience.

Honeysuckle breast milk storage bags: terrible. More than half of these broke during shipping whereas in the same shipment other bag types held up well. I would avoid these.

Lansinoh breast milk storage bags: second worst. About 1/4-1/3 of these typically broke/leaked upon shipping. It is not hard to tell they are the flimsiest. P.S. If you use these, a tip I found to help thaw them is to put each bag in a zip lock so it the bag leaks you can still use what stays in the bag (versus what leaks into the ziplock).

Medela breast milk storage bags: ok, not great. Hold up better than Honeysuckle and Lansinoh. About 1/6 - 1/5 of these would break/leak. They are also more difficult to pour out of and tend to lose a little milk in the pouring process (trick is to pour fast out of these).

Ameda breast milk storage bags: never used them as they come with twist ties and not ziplock seals.

Dr. Brown's breast milk storage bags: work great. never had one break.

Fooled by good reviews. Yes, they do seem more sturdy than the nuk and babies r us bags I've tried. Do not be fooled, I think these reviews are being written BEFORE they have tried to thaw a bag of milk. I stopped pumping and breastfeeding, thinking I could get my baby through a year on my freezer stash. Approximately HALF the bags I've defrosted have leaks. I defrost by placing the bags in the fridge overnight. In the morning, I have a soupy mess. Not knowing how long the leak has been there and the milk exposed, I do not feel comfortable giving my baby milk from a leaky bag.

So now, I cross my fingers whenever I defrost a bag, and clearly, my baby will not be getting breastmilk until she's a year old. All that hard work, storage, and I won't be able to meet this goal because of these bags. Yes, the nuk and babies r us bag sometimes had leaks, but these are much much worse. Beware.

Being that breastmilk bags are storing liquid gold, I wanted to use the best and I thought Lansinoh was the best, especially since it seemed as though so many mothers were using them. So I used the Lansinoh breastmilk bags for months and had over 500 frozen in storage and didn't have any issues until I started to thaw them. 1 out of 5 were leaking from the bottom corner seam line! I decided to try Nuk and Honeysuckle bags because they had a much thicker seam line. They also seemed to have a much thicker, better quality plastic. If I had to rate them I would say that Lansinoh would have a "poor" rating, Nuk "better" and Honeysuckle "best".

Why is Honeysuckle the best?
-Thicker, more durable plastic
-Heavy-duty double seals (these seals will not leak or burst open)
-Side seam allowance was the thickest, I would say about 10mm compared to Nuk's 8mm and Lansinoh's paltry 2mm.
-Bottom seam is ribbed and reinforced
-Tamper-resistant top
-Writing area is in white so you can easily see what is written unlike Nuk's which is clear
-I also like that they print some very useful tips on the outer bag like the milk storage guidelines and reminders to be gentle with your frozen milk since they are more fragile once they are solid.

I've also posted some detailed photos with notes.

None of the bags leaked before I froze them, while the milk was still in liquid form. I haven't thawed any of the frozen Nuk or Honeysuckle bags yet so I can't say if they leak. However, just by comparing the quality of the plastics and the thickness and reinforcements of the seams, I don't anticipate any leaky bags from the Honeysuckle brand. I will update my review once I start thawing them.

I read some good reviews on product and decided to try it. I have to pump at work so i thought they would be nice as they also look pretty. Well I froze my milk and when I sent it to the babysitters I sent it in the cooler but it was still frozen so I thought it could thaw out slowly once placed in her refrigerator. I sent 2 bags since my son was only going to be there for a couple of hours so i figured it was enough to my displeasure i get a call saying that the entire milk had Spilled from both bags :( For those moms who know just how difficult it is to pump on the go and try to keep up with growing baby you really cannot afford to waste any milk. I thought that maybe it was bad luck. But its happened to about 5 of my bags now. I have stopped using them all together and chose NUK which so far they have been alright.
