I like to imagine the conversation between the designers went something like this:
John: We should make a fan for people to use in their bedroom while they sleep.
Mike: Yeah, that's a great idea. We'll make it super quiet!
John: Quiet! And we'll give it a sleep timer and a remote control. I love it.
Mike: And how about the brightest light source known to man, so you don't need to ever turn on your bedroom light ever again?
John: I think we have a winner. Let's do it!
Other than that, it is a great fan.
As I was looking for a replacement fan, I mentioned to my husband that this Honeywell fan had good ratings. He suspected that a portion of the high ratings may have been written by new owners of the fans who eventually had problems, but did not update their reviews. We are going with a different brand this time (Vornado). Hopefully, we’ll have better long-term results. Based on our experience, I would definitely not recommend this Honeywell fan.
The main downside is that this fan does not have good motor bearings and when running pretty much continuously, every 6-12 months I notice it slowing down and having trouble starting. I've been able to fix this each time by disassembling the motor, cleaning, and re-oiling the bearings with basic 3-in-1 machine oil but this really should not be needed this often. Disassembly isn't too hard (takes about 15 minutes total to oil it) and after cleaning the old oil gunk out of the bearings and re-oiling them it works nearly as good as new. I've had the fan for 5 years and with this maintenance, it's still running.
As other people mentioned, the bright blue lights are very annoying, I've covered them up with black tape.
It works fine and I do like the 5 speed.
Even using it for the first time, I found it strange that the cover was warm from the motor or motor heat.
After about 32 days and used less than 10 times, the motor stopped spinning but the lights and sounds still worked. The cover this time was hot. Don't trust this fan and choose another brand. I bought the Westpointe pedestal fan and exhibited little heat on the cover even after 10 hours of constant on but it only has 3 speed settings, no timer and no remote.
