Easy to clean (especially compared to Crane)
I fill it only once a day. (Vs. 2-3 times with Crane)
Attached and spinning directional component allows you to turn direction of humidifier but stays on tight.
Simple understated design.
Honeywell offers a 2yr warranty.
Auto shutoff and light is far less annoying than on other units and you can place a piece of tape over it.
Since the crane and the Honeywell both take a gallon, I wonder if the Honeywell is actually outputting less than the Crane or if it is just a better use of technology and doing more with less.
Lack of colors, while I am cool with the design and I am happy that the black unit I purchased blends in, since the unit takes space, it would have been nice to be a design/colorful piece.
It is noisier than the Crane and quite so. While its not as loud as a Laptop computer fan, it comes close to it. I actually like it as it creates a slight white noise but it is still a con. As soon as you start a conversation or play music, you wont notice it. I only notice it when i am writing or reading, but I also get annoyed at ticking clocks, so thats just me.
As you can see from the pictures, the Honeywell seems to produce more than the Crane at all settings. Also the design of the honeywell makes it easy to clean. Our house is a bit difficult to explain, but multiple humidifiers are needed. When I built the house I tried to give my wife and I our own space, my elderly mom her own space (much like a little apartment) and our kids have rooms just outside the hallways to mom's room and our room. So one humidifier in one room only reaches that one room.
My interest in this humidifier is simply based around its ease of use (filling/cleaning) and its efficiency. What I ended up finding out is this is a really good humidifier. There's no special options or anything to learn before using it. You fill it up, plug it in and turn the knob until you have the desired amount of mist coming out. It's that simple to use. Here's the next good news. It's that simple to clean too. Now for the bad news, it quits being that easy to clean. Kaz tried something different with this humidifier than any I've used. The plunger (thing that releases water from the tank) is attached to the tank instead of being down in the base. At first, I thought this was perfect. Cleaning around those plungers in the base of a humidifier is one of the most frustrating parts. After several nights, the plunger partially encased in a plastic housing connected to the tank started showing some pink mildew. The mildew isn't surprising, all of my humidifiers do it, but cleaning inside that encasement was a little more frustrating than I expected. I wouldn't say it's any harder to clean that area than in one with the plunger in the base, so it just became an offsetting pro/con.
The performance of this humidifier is very good. I ran it on the middle setting for 5 straight days/nights and it needed refilled once about every 18 hours. That's not bad and the smaller size of this humidifier makes the 18 hours without refill even more impressive. There's a slight hum while running this on medium. If you turn it all the way up to high you still just have a slight hum, but you also get near constant water drip/gurgles. Neither would be a dealbreaker for me since I like light noises. I will say my wife was bothered by the noise on high, but not so much because it was loud, but instead she thought something was leaking in our house.
A few other parts about cleaning it: The base is the easiest base I've cleaned in a humidifier. There's another part you have to keep an eye on. You can see it in the product image in the middle of the tank. It's a tube that disperses the cool mist. This can get a little gunky, but is relatively easy to clean with a small brush. The top part where the mist comes out can be removed so you have direct access to the tube for cleaning. I'm only taking one star off as sort of a balance of cons. My wife being bothered by the sound/the plunger being frustrating to clean and there's one more pro/con.
The valve that your fill the water tank with is one of the best I've seen. It only requires one turn to remove/open, one turn to close/lock. The problem with many humidifier is the valve requires a constant turning/screwing on motion which is bad enough since the threads become stripped, but it's made worse since it's wet. Then there's the con to the valve. It has a low-quality, maybe 1/8" inch rubber washer that freely moves up and down between the valve and tank. In my past experience, these rubber washers that move and are thin become wore over time and stop holding the seal between the valve and tank.
Overall though, for the price and taking its good performance into consideration, it's a good buy. Also forgot to mention the top of the tank has a handle in the back-top area which you can't see in the product image picture which makes the refilling process even easier. I'm going to keep it and put it one of the kid's rooms. I keep forgetting things. The mist adjustment knob does have a very subtle green light on it when operating. From the best I can tell there is no way to turn it off, but it's hardly noticeable and could easily be covered.
- Very quiet
- Doesn't require a filter
- Comforting mist.
- Elegant look and the mist looks pretty.
- Uses relatively less power than other humidifier products.
- Auto off when empty.
- Refilling can be a pain. You have to turn it upside down, open the reservoir cap (on the bottom), fill it with water while holding the reservoir which is getting heavy. You can't place on a flat surface because its top/head isn't flat and the tip (where it shoots out mist) may crush under heavy load.
- Residual build-up (result of not using a filter)
