Hard to see OFF/COOL/HEAT
on May 23, 2013
I purchased one of these for my new heater. I wanted to have the physical up/down temperature buttons and I didn't want to have to worry about a firmware update causing my thermostat to crash or a hacker from the internet playing with the temperature at all hours. I agree with another writer that the off/heat/cool writing is too small to see easily. I typically have to find my reading glasses before I can go up to it and turn on the heat which is very inconvenient. I have gotten used to it by memorizing which side heat is on in the little box instead.
The picture shows a large contrast between the numbers and letters and the background. This is not always the case depending on the lighting conditions. During the day, across the hall from my large window where the thermostat is located, it becomes very hard to see and does not have the contrast. At night it looks like the picture and is easier to see.
I wish it had an 2 color LED to indicate status when it cycles on telling me if it was cooling or heating. I might actually put a 2 color 24V LED on the left side so I can stop guessing which mode it is in.
