I needed tech support from Honeywell to get my wiring set up properly. I was coming to this unit from a 1986 White-Rogers model thermostat so there was no apples-to-apples as far as the wiring designations were concerned.
The gal who helped me was knowledgeable and helpful and got me quickly squared away.
The only glitch came when I set the Wake/Leave/Return/Sleep schedule and the cooler came on during the "leave" time even though it shouldn't have.
That's important to me because the reason I bought a programmable thermostat is because I have just switched over to our electric utility's 7pm to Noon off-peak plan. Since off-peak power is four times less expensive than on-peak with this plan, I wanted precise control over when the dang AC kicks in.
Turns out this unit has a Smart Response Technology that wants to anticipate when you'll need your house at the desired temp, and kicks on the AC unit before the scheduled time. Well, Arizona in the summer is not a good time for this unit to decide to begin cooling down the house a couple of hours before the set "return" time when it is doing that during the extremely expensive on-peak time period.
So, RTFM. I discover it is possible to disable this annoying Smart Response piece of crap. Tap System & Fan, then hold down Fan for about 5 seconds. Keep hitting Next until you get to 0530. Change the 1 to 0, and you are good to go.
I hope this helps others trying to deal with this not-exactly-user-friendly operating system.
The thermostat has worked fine until last week. When I tried to change the temperature using the up/down arrows, the screen controls disappeared momentarily and it did not change the thermostat temperature setting. It seemed to me that the batteries in the unit SHOULD last for more than 6 months, but I changed them anyway to see if that would fix the issue. The unit seemed to be working fine after changing the batteries, so I thought all was well and I just had a power-hungry thermostat.
5 days later, I came home from work one day to a freezing house. I walked over to the thermostat to find that the controls had completely disappeared! I pressed the touchscreen with my finger and the controls re-appeared, but the unit had NOT turned on my furnace according to the schedule I had set.
It's 20 degrees here and I can't have a flaky thermostat failure in the winter, so I will be returning this unit to Honeywell. Hopefully, it won't be as much of a hassle for me as it has been for everyone else that have had trouble.
It's a pain to program it - be prepared to spend at least a half hour on it. I also suggest you hand write out what settings you want for each day, hot and cold, to make it easier to program.
It only got 3 stars because you have to program both the heat and cooling at the same time for each day which can get confusing after awhile. It would be nice if you could set it on the A/C side, program the cooling bits. Then set it on the heat side and program that.
Received: thermostat, installation guide, screws/anchors, wire labels, operation manual and reference card.
Install: you'll need a drill (to prepare the holes for the anchors), a Phillips head screwdriver (optional - just depends on preference for installing/tightening the screws), a leveler (they provide a spot to put it to ensure it is straight), a small slot head screwdriver (used when connecting the wires), and 2 AA batteries.
Comments: even though the installation is pretty easy and simple, the installation guide does not explain or everything as clearly as it could have so that is the only thing I had any issues with
