Overall I'm pleased with this unit. I bought a filtered purifier for the living room and I wish I'd bought another one of these instead. I've already replaced the filter on that one a couple of times and it's pricey.
It's not the same device. It's noisy and the carbon prefilter no longer wraps around the HEPA filter - it's just a small ribbon strip that wraps around under the intake.
Did I mention it's noisy? The first one that was shipped to me had an off-center impeller - I couldn't find the problem when I opened it up, but one of the blades intermittently banged against its housing. That had to go back. I ignored the instructions to contact KAZ - I know better, all that does is time out your warranty as they stall, and stall, and stall - and instead I took advantage of Amazon's replacement policy. The replacement arrived super fast. It's here - a rubber foot was missing, but I'm not going through this all again, I kludged something up - and while it's clearly operating within spec, it's not quiet at all. The other one makes a low, bassy, pleasant drone - this new one has a very high pitched, almost-whine that sets my teeth on edge. Sort of like a dentist's suction vacuum.
I'm sure the thing to do is just to put the new filter in the old device - I have a few of the old wraparound prefilters kicking around - and make this noisy one into my garage unit. But really? This the best your consumer division could do, Honeywell? I hope your Raptor avionics and your truck turbochargers are built to a better spec!
The unit is a little larger than I expected but was able to find a location that has it out of the way of foot traffic and also away from the ceiling fan. A magazine placed on top of the unit also helps to hide it at first glance.
The sound that others have commented on is not an issue to me. I have used the unit on high only (no jokes please) and it sounds similar to a 20" box fan on low setting. Noticeable but not overbearing and if you live on a major street like I do the white noise is actually nice for sleeping yet does not interfere with sound from the computer speakers or tv.
Waking up the first day after using it all night had me convinced this was worth the purchase. The air smelled clean and my nasal passages were clear, also I did not have the normal "bong cough" that many smokers have after years of medicating with medical marijuana.
Another plus to me was that this unit does not have the uv light or ozone generating capability. It just cleans the air and also I have read of health issues from the units that generate ozone into closed areas.
