Three years ago, Deanne Glenn survived hell, but not the grief and the regret. She is determined to go back to were it all began, even if she must remake her identity to make it happen and make a difference...then she met Rafe.
For Honor by Jeannette Winters was not a lengthy book, but this entertaining story was packed with danger, angst, sadness, blistering chemistry and sweet joy. This stand-alone romance was engaging and the characters were believable. I liked all of the Turchetta siblings, but Rafe was harder to love. He was definitely a challenge, but Deanne was certainly up to the task of finding Rafe's heart and put the beat back into it. With a great cast of characters and a solid plot, a HEA was assured. The satisfying ending was made even sweeter by the epilogue.
I really liked this read. I definitely recommend it. If rough language or descriptive sexual content is a problem for you, there is a sweet version of this book. Either way, this story is perfect for a day at the beach or for a rain afternoon on the sofa.
Raphael "Rafe" Turchetta, a former Air Force veteran who still fought the injustice of the world with his team of veterans of various ages from different branches of the service. He was helped Bennett Stone (VIRGIN FOR THE FOURTH TIME) and his team to rescue Alex Henderson (HIS FOR FIVE NIGHTS). Things in Taquid were not all well as the Hendersons thought.
There was someone who was hellbent on undoing all the hard work they have accomplished in the country. After a mission Gabe (Rafe's brother) wanted to stay back to help Bennett's team. Rafe reluctantly agreed.
Deanna "DeeDee" Glenn (Phoebe Turchetta's friend) suffered a tragedy that kept torturing her, one she couldn't share with anyone. As time went by she knew she needed to stop the lies before they destroyed her. To continue to do what she and Phoebe always dreamt about, she took on a new identity (Alice Wilcox).
Rafe met Alice and their brief encounter left him with a feeling that things were not what they seemed when it came to the woman who captivated him. He was right, he wanted answers regarding why she was crying at his sister's grave.
With Gage's help he finally found out who the mysterious Alice was. And the fact that she put herself in danger by going back to the place where Phoebe was taken from them. Made Rafe very protective of her. So much so that he and Josh followed her to Moreira.
Being in Moreira again didn't make DeeDee feel any better but the knowledge that Rafe was in the same country as her did. They both felt attracted to each other. Danger was lurking around DeeDee again and Rafe didn't like that.
Despite his attraction towards her, he found himself being rude to Dee out of frustration because of her lies. He knew that she was withholding some crucial information about what happened three years ago. What he failed to see though was how much those lies were tearing her apart from the inside.
Dee finally told her secrets and when all was said and done, she and Rafe found that they couldn't keep their hands to themselves. The evildoers got what was coming to them while the Turchettas learned to open up more about their fellings.
FOR HONOR is the first book in Jeannette Winters' newest series, TURCHETTA'S PROMISE. It was heartbreaking, beautiful and fantastic. Marvelous job by Jeannette Winters.
P. S. Love the crossover between the Barrington Billionaires and the Turchetta's Promise series :).
As an avid romantic suspense reader I’m always looking for a book that would make a difference in the genre. This was definitely a worthy book but unfortunately, at least for me, it didn’t make the difference. The plot was a bit unbalanced, mainly because a lot of space was dedicated to the suspense part. Despite this, the suspense part didn’t live up to the expectations. At first it seemed as if a big political conspiracy was elaborated but then the motive behind Phoebe’s death was very trivial. In this way the volume dedicated to elaborate the suspense part found for me no justification and the book “deflated” for me.
Deanna failed to persuade as the female lead character. Not because she hasn’t yet come to terms with the loss of her best friend but because she had that “damsel in distress” syndrome, which I just can’t read about anymore. Rafe on the other hand overshadowed her greatly. Not that I loved his behavior or attitude but it fit perfectly to the character crafted.
As already said, the book was a bit unbalanced and I think that the HEA deserved more space. In any case, though a bit cheesy, the ending was very romantic and well done.
