The hub is plug_and_play with my Windows 7 Professional Operating System and no additional drivers were required. This installation took 2 seconds on my computer. I did the tests on a large tower computer and the 12 inch long USB cable is too short for that type of computer. You have to leave the hub hanging either on the front or the back of your computer as the cord is too short to allow you to set the hub on top of your tower. The short cable is good for desktop and laptop computers and it is portable to fit into your laptop case or briefcase.
Remember that since the hub is powered by only a USB port on your computer that the power to the hub is split to power the 4 ports and to power the hub itself. That means if you are using a USB 3.0 port you only have 900 mA of current and if you are using a USB 2.0 port you only have 500 mA of current available. If you use AC powered device like a printer, scanner or some external hard drives they get their energy from their own power supply.
In addition the data communication bandwidth is split between the four devices that are plugged into the hub. You will never get the theoretical USB 3.0 speed but the data communication can still be fast. I did some bench marking of the hub using a very high speed USB thumb drive that is 128 GIG of space and has SSD quality speeds. I plugged in four items and all of them were recognized and worked on my computer.Read more ›
Look: The product came in a professional looking box with product information and instructions (as opposed to some products that come in a plain hanging bag). It is a travel or small desk size hub with a longer 1 foot cable. The plug end is a little larger than normal, but long, not wide, so no issue fitting it in a computer USB port. It seems to have a nice, solid build. The four ports are stacked instead of next to each other and spaced apart nicely, making it easy to insert and remove USB plugs. It also has a blue light that makes the ports easy to see in a dark area or room. The quality seems great and it is compact for travel or desk use without taking up much space.
Use and Performance: I tested this Hub out with several peripherals on multiple computers and laptops. The USB 3.0 speeds were great on all ports. All ports were also backwards compatible with all USB 2.0 peripherals that I had. Transfer speeds were very fast for everything I tried. I also plugged in my iPhone 5 to charge and sync and everything worked perfectly. I was happy with the performance in all situations.
Conclusion: Overall, this is a nice USB Hub for increasing the number of USB 3.0 ports you have available on your computer. The orientation of the ports makes it easy to use and the light is a little bonus. The price is competitive with other USB 3.0 Hubs on Amazon and the Hub looks to be a high quality piece of equipment. I would recommend this product to anyone looking to utilize more USB 3.0 ports on their computer. Highly Recommended!
As long as you don't connect devices that draw too much power all at once it'll work great for your tablet/phone. Connected my mouse/keyboard etc and it works perfectly.
But PLEASE BE AWARE..
The one foot cord is just too short for most practical use. One foot may be a size to be reckoned with in other contexts, but certainly not in this one.
If you use it for a laptop on the desk, I guess it will be okay. But for any thing else, it is just too short -- and it is not like you can just plug it in to your existing USB 2.0 hub! Then you will get only a 2.0 speed. Most likely, if you plug it into a desk top, it won't reach the top or the bottom comfortably, and will be just hanging -- or worse yet, knock your USB 3.0 disk drive off the table.
I wish it came with a 3 foot cord. It is clearly stated in the description. But with so many other numbers referring to 3.0 (USB) and 4 (ports) I somehow missed it. Now I have to buy an extender.
Other than that, it is a swell product.
Here are my impressions following my experience using the HooToo HT-UH007 Portable Superspeed Bus-Powered USB 3.0 4-port Hub.
OUT OF THE BOX
The hub is a great size for tossing into your laptop bag, carrying in a pocket and attaching to your laptop. It's only 4" long, 1.5" wide and a bit less than 1" thick, with a 1' cord attached to it. It's very lightweight - only 2.65 ounces.
The cord has a USB 3.0 connector, which allows the bus to transfer at the older USB 2.0 and 1.1 speeds or the newest 3.0. (Bear in mind you must have a USB 3.0 port to connect to on your PC or Mac for the USB 3.0 ports to transfer at that speed. You must also have a device plugged into the hub that too is USB 3.0 equipped.)
This 4-port USB 3.0 hub works with Linux 3.0 or higher, Mac OS X or higher, and Windows (*98, Me, 2000, XP, Vista, 7 & 8).
In the included User Manual, which is very good (something unusual for these devices in my experience...) you will find English, French and German instructions. Cautions, Packing List, Features, User Tips, Troubleshooting, and Warranty info are all included in this manual.
This product comes with a 100% Satisfaction Guarantee (in the manual you'll see the specifics). Refunds or replacements are possible if you receive a defective unit.
The build-quality is very good. Sturdy, yet lightweight.
**The manual in my box said '7 ports of USB 3.0 HUB', yet had the 4-port hub photograph and model number on it. The manual does talk about the 4-port hub however.Read more ›
