Product Description

Hoodman's Glasses Model Hoodeye Eyecup for Canon 5D Mark III 7D, 1D, and 1DS Mark III Models will help block out light when looking through your camera's viewfinder and is specially designed for the eyeglass wearer. From its over-sized design, which seals out ambient light, to its rotating nature that accommodates right or left eyed shooters, this eyecup ensures that the Canon 5D Mark III, 7D, 1D, and IDS Mark III shooter can get their shot with ease. The self locking mount slides over the eyepiece mounting rails, keeping the cup in place. Additionally, the hypoallergenic silicon keeps irritation at bay for hours of comfortable shooting.

The Hoodman Glasses Eyecup for Canon 7D fits well and does help with eliminating reflections from my eyeglasses. The only negative is that the bottom of the Hoodcup covers part of the LCD screen, which isn't a big deal for me. If you use the LCD screen to change settings on the camera, the hood covers shutter speed and F-stop. I have used numerous Hoodman products and like what I have purchased in the past. I gave it 4 stars only based upon the covering of part of the LCD screen.
I would recommend this product for anyone wearing glasses while using the 7D.

Real briefly, I wear glasses. When I shoot with the standard Canon OEM viewfinder eyecup on the 7D, I have to really peer into the viewfinder and my glasses tend to fog up and it's not always easy to see focus while I'm shooting. Not a problem since I installed the Hoodman Glasses eyecup. It installs in 20 seconds and stays on until you decide to take it off. The good news is that it works. It works really well. I consider it indispensable for my work.

Thank you Hoodman.

Great product the only improvement I wish would be made is the rubber viewing hole is round when my Canon 7d view finder window is square. You simply have to get really close to the eye cup to ensure round edges don't cut off part of the view (but I guess that's the point of this cup). Just don't get hurried or you may miss some details around the edge when framing your shot. Hoodman is great, been around for years, maybe their mfg will pick up on this. Totally recommend this eye cup!

I have two of these, one on a Canon 5D3 and one on the 1DX. The newer one on the 1DX somehow tore after just a couple months of use. I am not sure how it tore as I picked up my camera body one day and noticed a huge tear in it. I like using these, they do rotate easily for vertical or horizontal frame orientations. Sometimes I just push it flat against the camera body when I do not need it.

Update: Jan 2016. Tore another hood. I am a professional (full time) photographer, so these see a lot of use, I just wish they would last a bit longer. The last one tore on a 5D3 in cold winter conditions. I believe they tear for me when I take them in and out of my camera pack. Just ordered another one though...

I wear glasses and look through my viewfinder with my left eye. As a result, my glasses were constantly bumping up against some portion of my Canon 7d, and/or my nose and cheek were smudging up the LCD screen. This eyepiece allows me to hold the camera slightly farther away from my face, my glasses only come in contact with the rubber eyepiece, and outside light from the sides and rear is effectively blocked out. One does need to rotate the eyepiece 90 degrees clockwise when holding the camera in the "vertical" position when shooting, but I do not find this to be a notable inconvenience. While it does block sight of approximately half of the first line of the LCD screen, I find that it is very easy push the lip the eyepiece out of the way with a thumb or forefinger. When putting the camera into my bag, a small backpack, I do have to take a little care to make sure that the eyepiece is not caught or hooked over the zipper at the top of the backpack. Once again, this is not a significant inconvenience. I would recommend this item to anyone who wears glasses--and as well, to anyone who experiences the annoyance of facial smudges on his/her LCD screen.

I added this and it certainly helps you see through the view finder in bring sunlight. However, it blocks part of the rear screen hiding some of the basic info. I've also found in the real world I shoot with my left eye or rotate the camera a lot so it gets in the way. If you are doing landscape oriented photography only, it is a good deal. If you are shooting portrait frequently with your landscape orientation you'll probably find it in the way. I might trim mine to be more of a circle so it works well from all angles,

This eyecup prevents light from obscuring what you see through the viewfinder. I wear glasses, so this is extremely helpful when shooting in bright light and it doesn't smear my eyeglass lens. Wonderful find and a great product. I highly recommend it!!

Works so so with glasses on, but much better without glasses. Without glasses it wraps completely around my eye admitting no peripheral light, then viewfinder image is as clear and enjoyable as a movie screen in a dark theater.
