What readers are saying about HOODOO MONEY:

If you love really evil bad guys, spooky settings, and a story that will keep you wondering all the way to the end, you will love Hoodoo Money! I hope Ms. Pennington has more planned like this book because this book just whets my appetite. ~ Stevi B, Reviewer, Manic Readers

Is it really a hoodoo curse? Or is there something else that can explain the series of tragedies that dog Braeden McKay's every step after her best friend, Angeline St Cyr takes a nickel from the grave of a hoodoo woman in a New Orleans cemetery? This is an intricate, engrossing romantic suspense. Moving from New Orleans to Galveston it is brilliantly paced with an intriguing, multi-layered plot and a host of well-developed characters. Cleverly written, taut, suspenseful with believable dialogue, some really humorous characters and situations, and not one, but two realistically written heroes. ~ Jill, Goodreads.com

Braeden and Angeline are in New Orleans on a working vacation when Angeline takes a souvenir nickel from the grave of a hoodoo gypsy. What follows next is a twisting and turning tale of murder and love. This will keep you turning pages to get to the end, I sat up late to finish this one. ~ Theresa N, Goodreads.com

From the Author

One of my earliest fiction heroines was Nancy Drew. I couldn't get enough of her. Nancy was self-confident and clever and always, ALWAYS eyeball deep in trouble. Oddly, she was the direct opposite of me. Hoodoo Money is the kind of romantic suspense novel I loved to read then, and still do. Hopefully, I've succeeded in filling its pages with enough mystery to spark the imagination and ample romance to stir the heart. With a dose of sizzle thrown in for good measure.

Sharon Cupp Pennington's debut novel strikes it rich in Hoodoo Money. Love, culture, setting and a brilliantly crafted mystery plot make this a one-day, can't-set-it-down, page turner. With heroes to die for and evil lurking from all corners of New Orleans and Galveston, Hoodoo Money contains all the ingredients for a summer beach read or a cozy day in front of a fire. Either way, you won't put it down until the last page. I've read it, I own it, and I don't intend to let someone borrow it for fear I won't get it back. - C. Hope Clark, [...]

Pennington's book is a breath of fresh air in the genre. Her subtle yet uncompromising characters weave a unique story of unrequited desire, power and lust, which spiral into self-fulfillment, the hope of love, ultimate loss and murder. Every facet of the human condition is painted skillfully across the broad canvas of a vibrant and often dark New Orleans, where curses are weighed on a single nickel - or are they? A pure delight to read.

HOODOO MONEY is simply a fun, great read! Romance, the tradition and history of New Orleans and a lead character that's as spunky and spicy as Cajun food all combine to make Sharon Cupp Pennington's book a page turner.

Romance, intrigue, a possible curse...what more could I ask for! Hoodoo Money was so much fun. The rich New Orleans setting and falling in love relationships added to the mystery and charm of the book, and I couldn't put it down until I turned the last page. Sharon Cupp Pennington has written a top notch story. I fell in love with the main characters and can't wait for her next one.

What a twisted web of intrigue Ms. Pennington weaves in this story told through different points of view. Most of the story centers on Braeden McKay, an idealistic children's author, who had researched a local murder story several years earlier. She stored all of her pictures and interviews away for safe keeping because something didn't feel right about it.

While accompanying her childhood friend, super model Angeline St. Cyr, on a shoot in New Orleans, Braeden gets mugged. Sanderson Montgomery is not the officer working her case but recognizes who she is and is inadvertently drawn to her. He is a smart detective, as he learns more about Braeden and her history he starts making connections that may be relevant to the murder case she researched years ago. In the meantime Cooper, Angeline's hired driver for the week, decides to take her out of town for a little R&R, and to avoid reporters swarming the hotel since Braeden's mugging. Angeline finds Cooper quite charming and despite their diverse backgrounds they are both attracted to each other However, he has a colorful history of his own, which the author has woven quite skillfully. It is a tangled web of deceit, murder, and disaster deluxe.

When tragedy strikes Braeden blames herself for not insisting that Angeline return the nickel souvenir she lifted off the gravestone of a Hoodoo woman after a photo shoot in the New Orleans graveyard. Grief stricken Braeden returns home to Texas. As murders start piling up in connection to Braeden's mugging, Sanderson fears for her safety and finds an excuse to follow her to Galveston. More mysterious happenings around Braeden's home cause Sanderson to start working with the local police. Most of the main characters are well written and believable.
