Millie Diamond is your typical high school senior, just caught in the cross hair of trying to make through school but preparing for life. She has great parents who have tried to help her plan her life out and of course she has to be the one with the police officer dad. Cash Davis is definitely not looking for a girlfriend. Being in trouble back on Boston him and his mom has to move to Tennessee. Especially after her dad arrested him the first week he was in town. But sometimes fate steps in and as a way of bringing the right people in your life for reasons. But trouble can also follow you around. Can Mil and Cash's young love last through all these troubles or is it just young love lost? Find out when you read this book. I would definitely recommend it especially if you're looking for a ya read. A cute, funny, and romantic read.
I don't want to be too harsh on this book, just because it was not a fit for me does not mean that it was bad. However, even looking at it as a book for young people I found the writing to be pretty boring and the characters not very well developed. There was a lot of "I went here, said that, did this" It felt more like reading a journal then a story.
I also found Milli, very annoying. She had this hang up with "cussing" which I found annoying. I got sick of hearing her comment on very mild words like "pissed" and "ass" and everyone feeling the need to try to clean up their language whenever they were around her. It was overdone and I found myself cringing every time "cussing" would come up.
Overall I just could not get into this book and found it pretty simplistic even for young readers.
Hooked is a beautifully written, down to earth, young adult romance novel about first loves. I, myself don’t normally read young adult books but I’m so glad that I read it, I’m simply in love with HOOKED. It brought me back to those days as a young, naïve teenage girl who fell hard for the “wrong boy” along with trying to understand what it was that I was actually feeling. I loved how the author was able to bring be back to a place that I pretty much forgot about.
As a parent, I wish that this book was out when my girls were teenagers. I not only would have bought them a copy but I would have bought all their friends a copy…..but honestly, it’s not just for teenage girls. It’s for you as well.
It was just the end where when Cash leaves to go finish up what happened in Boston and doesn't say a word to Millie. All the while Millie is all of a sudden in college with Cara and is making friends and then boom he's back and then it's over.
All in all I think this is a great young adult romance novel.
Millie is starting her senior year. She wants to have a fun year with her best friends Cara and Jess. They make their yearly predictions for the school year after Millie gets her very own car. Life is good!
When someone new walks in Millie is shocked. He is hot and she is instantly intrigued. He turns out to be Cash Davis from Boston. He is the ultimate bad boy. He is trying to keep his head down and get through his senior year. Of course Millie makes that difficult. He is a moth that is attracted to her light. He can’t stay from her. They grow closer as time goes on but he refuses to open up about what is going on. He is afraid to put her in danger.
When his past catches up with him everything comes to a head. Millie’s dad has to come help out the situation. True danger stalks them both.
I loved the dedication that Cash has for Millie. It is truly sigh worthy. Every woman needs a man that in love with her. The storyline was sweet and a great love story.
However I couldn’t stand Millie. She was too emotional and seemed extremely young for her age. It really drove me crazy. She was too sheltered as a character with a too controlling father. Didn’t care for the family dynamics that the author created. Just couldn’t connect with the characters with that family.
I did like Cash and Jess. They were strong and very believable. I like a little grit and angst to my teenage characters. I have yet to meet a teen that doesn’t fight the system in some way, even those considered the good ones. With that in mind it was a cute love story. I give it a 3 out of 5.
