Found this book at the library. Am using it for Gr. 4 Novel study. Covers weather & bullying learning outcomes as well as language art outcomes. Such a sweet story! My 9 year old is an animal lover & could not put the book down and read it in 2 days. He even got his 12 year old brother to read the book. Told from the view point of the dog. The boys loved that it was based on a true story on an event that happened in their life time on their continent.

I have to tell you a story about this book. My little boy learned to read with it. When this book arrived at our house, I started reading a bit of it to my son every night before bedtime. He loved the story, and so did I. There were times when I didn't want to put the book down --- a few real cliffhangers that kept me reading long after I intended to stop for the night!
It's a great story --- a real page turner! When I was done with the book and we finally reached the end, sometimes we would choose another story for bedtime reading, and sometimes we would just start all over again with Hooper! My son never got tired of the story, and neither did I.
When my son began to learn to read for himself, this was one of the first books that he opened up, and regardless of the fact that it is more advanced than the beginner books, he read through the pages from beginning to end and had no trouble understanding the words (probably because he knew the story very well and loved it)! When his teacher asked the class to do a book report/poster on their favorite books, my son chose Hooper for his presentaton!
Although he is old enough now to read to himself, my son still likes me to come in and read a bedtime story to him occasionally. Last night -- no kidding --- he wanted to hear Hooper again. And I was glad. Even now it is still a fun read for both of us! :-)

A great doggie story for grade school children in the historical setting of Hurricane Katrina. It is quite but entertaining and endearing read, though harrowing in some parts especially during the struggles in the storm. My 10-year old daughter has this book on her list for her school's "Battle of the Books" and really enjoyed it! Skimming through it, it seemed well written and appropriately engaging for the age group it targets. Reminicent in ways of The Call of the Wild, but slightly tamer.

Hooper Finds a Family is a great, heartwarming story for kids since it will not only entertain them, as any good book should, but will also teach them valuable life lessons about hope, courage, making friends in new situations, and, most of all, love. The story is riveting (I am far from falling into the suggested age range for this book, but I stayed up well into the night reading!), as Hooper gets lost in the storm, struggles to survive, and finally makes his way to a caring new family in New York. His journey will capture your heart. It is also a powerful statement about the value of rescue organizations and their volunteers. Anyone who loves animals and anyone who is thinking about getting a dog for their family should read this book.

This story is about a dog who survived Hurricane Katrina and loses his family and gets new owners.

Hooper is a clumsy pup. Watch him grow up and stand up to bigger dogs. He is a very brave and smart dog.

My favorite part is when Hooper stood up to the bigger dog named Mel. Mel said to give him the ball, but Hooper didn't even flinch.

I'd recommend this book to anyone who loves dogs, adventures and the wilderness.

In Hooper finds a family I lime the way it is put together but I think they should have made it were gorge is related to Larry so Hooper ends up back home with George and I think instead of Hooper they should have used Georges name for him as a memory of them

Hooper Finds a family is an excellent personal narrative as told by the dog's point of view regarding the events that he and other animals endured after hurricane Katrina. It tells about his life after he's taken & rescued by a new family and how he's learning to adjust & trust his new humans.

I liked how Hooper finally learned to bark and to catch a ball.I think it's neat that Hooper got rescued by such a nice family. I'm also glad that Hooper survived the storm. I thought it was cool when Larry finally started to like Hooper and stopped calling him Thud. I think this is an great book.
