I am COMPLETELY disappointed in Hoover for this product. Several months ago, I threw it in the trash because when my husband took it apart to see why it wasn't working anymore, all of the parts were rusted! Are you kidding me... it's a carpet cleaner. I use it alot. I had a more advanced Hoover product before this and used it for about 3 years before it stopped working. I decided to get this because I thought I would spend a little less money and still get the quality. Forget it.... what a piece of trash. Completely wasted my money. I'm done with Hoover.

The SpinScrub brushes makes the spinning action using a turbine mechanism. This turbine has cheap parts and it starts rusting as soon as it comes in touch with water, which could happen right after the first wash. This issue has been widely reported in Hoover's other models as well, and yet Hoover's clueless Engineering team is unable to change the design or the parts and keeps on using non-stainless steel and cheap parts which seize to operate, right after they come in contact with water and rust.
Check the following link on Amazon Q&A where a user has asked a question after his or her machine stopped working:

When I experienced this issue as I was getting ready to use the machine, I did an online search and numerous videos on how to fix the Hoover carpet cleaner's turbine mechanism. It's just been a year and have used the cleaner twice. I am very handy with fixing things. So, I thought, I will give it a try before calling Hoover for warranty claim. In my case though, it won't fix as the shaft between two bearings is completely rusted and jammed. The bearings are rusted too, tried using WD-40 and tried to move the part but it won't budge.
I have now sent a message to Hoover Support, let's see how quickly they can have it fixed. I will come back and update the review accordingly.
----- Update as of May 4th -----
My machine was still under warranty. I had contacted the Hoover Support via email but they refused to send the affected part and instead referred to me to their authorized service center. I tried to reason with them that it's waste of time for me drive about 11 mi to take the machine for a problem which I have already diagnosed. They refused and reiterated to take it to authorized service center. I had eventually taken the machine last week to service center. The service center folks were very receptive and told me that this is a common problem but good for their business. Warranty or not, they get paid either way.
Service Center had called me last Saturday that they had replaced the part under warranty. I just need to now pick it up.
----- Update as of May 6th -----
I picked up the machine today and it has a new turbine that rotates the SpinScrub brushes. This repair was done under warranty but I am concerned that warranty would soon expire. So, I asked the service tech about what options I have when (not if) it happens again. He told me that the part is about $30 and their service fee for changing the part is $20. So, I will be looking at $50 expense every time this part needs replacement as the company WILL NOT ship the part directly to consumer even if they could handle the repairs themselves.
An additional fact to keep in mind before you pick this cleaner.

Initial reaction when I had first received this Carpet cleaner, was pretty good. Opened the box, only thing I had to assemble was the handle and it was ready to go. Most of the 5-Star reviews have covered the good part of its functioning. I will highlight what they may not have experienced yet.

Just like other reviews, the tank leaks. After using it twice it started leaking extremely fast. It leaks when I put it in rinse mode. It was completely empty after 3 minutes. So I took off the tank and took a look to make sure I attached it right and everything was secure. Everything looked fine so I gave it a try and it continued leaking. Set up a return with Amazon and got a replacement. The next one leaked immediately and would not suck the water up every time. If I turned it off and tried to suck the water up it would sometimes work. So I gave up and returned it and will look into purchasing a different brand. It's very frustrating these companies know there is a problem and do not try to fix it. I love that there is a sticker that says not to return to the store and to call them. I think not. That is to save the company money because it cost them more if you return it. Plus I've read plenty of reviews that Hoover is a nightmare to work with. I'll always let Amazon handle the problem. Their customer service is excellent. All I have to do is set up a return on my door step.

1) This thing leaks well after it's turned off.. Pain to clean and why should I have to clean after the cleaning machine?
2) It does not have a heater, add the hottest water you can and hurry!!
3) The bristles are the thing I hate the most, they are vacuum powered not motor driven.. You can literally hear them slow/bog down if you're going too fast (must go extremely slow) or have too thick carpet and my vacuum cleaner (shark navigator professional) does a much better job at what the cleaner it's supposed to do.
4) My neighbors have a $60 Bissell than does an enormously better job in about half the time. Glad I didn't pay full price but I'd rather pay a lot up front and get what I paid for.
Conclusion: But something else, anything else, this is a genuine piece of crap. Oh yeah I did have it completely disassembled and put bank together thinking there must be something wrong with the drive mechanism.. No belts/bands/drivechains, that's where I became aware this thing is vacuum powered. Horrible "cleaner". Don't say I didn't warn you if you buy this thing. Cheers.

I paid $150 cdn for this on sale. What a great deal!
I did my research and compared product reviews/specifications in a similar price range and I'm very happy that I chose to purchase this cleaner!
There are so many pros to this cleaner, so I'll just list a few, then I'll address some of the problems in the negative reviews.
First off all, the engineering of this is very well thought out! I previously had a $150 carpet cleaner, which I actually had to strap lifting weights to, in order to get it to press hard enough down on my carpet, to suck up the water (no joke). This machine however, is designed so that the dirty water collection tank always sits on top of the vacuum suction head... think about that. What that means is, as you recover more dirty water, the head presses down harder on the carpet (due to the increasing water weight), recovering almost all of the water that you've sprayed out.... but wait, there's more! The heat exhaust of this machine, is vented down at the carpet, this helps to evaporate what little water remains, ingenious! This, combined with the separate water and detergent tanks, removable spinning brush heads and filters, plus the detachable stair/upholstery nozzles and many handles, really make this a no brainer purchase.
Now, to address some of the nay sayers:
To the person/people who complained about the brush heads hardly/not spinning when the machine was tilted on its back: I noticed the same thing, and it had me worried that it was broken, however I soon realized that this is most likely an intended safety feature. When tilted, the plastic cog wheel disconnects, to stop the brush heads spinning, but if you tilt it back upright, it puts pressure on the heads, engaging the shaft to cause them to spin (I verified this by reaching my hand slightly underneath, although I strongly discourage anyone from doing this)
As for the handle breaking: that person/people must have been very forceful, as I wasn't exactly "friendly" using mine, and encountered no problems at all, everything was rigid.
For the people complaining about water leakage: this happened to me as well, but it was my own fault. It happened by placing the clean water tank on incorrectly, easily fixed. The manual also warns about not tilting the machine on its back with water in the tanks.
For the people complaining about the tank sizes: this tank is actually very large! It holds twice the water of my old, similarly priced machine.
You have to consider that:
Any greater tank size would mean, thicker plastics to handle the stresses, increasing cost.
More pressure on the brush heads meeting the carpet, which means the shaft/cog wheel might need to be made of metal to handle that stress, increasing cost.
Finally, water is heavy and if the tanks were larger, less able people would find it very heavy to lift or handle.
The bottom line is most of the negative reviews were due (like many things) to human error or not following instructions correctly.
In conclusion, I honestly don't believe that you can beat the value this machine provides. I highly recommend this product! I would have happily paid well above what I did for this machine based upon its design and performance.

Didn’t have to replace my carpets!

This thing is amazing!! After my tenants moved out, we were putting the house up for sale. I used it once, let it dry then again and the results were incredible! We were worried we had to replace the carpets (2 dogs). It’s fairly easy to assemble and clean. I like the small upholstery cleaner too. I use it on the carpet as well in areas harder to reach with the machine. It worked just as good. It does use a lot of water but so worth it!! Don’t waste your money on fancy detergent cleaners. Go to Home Depot and get the large $10 jug, works better than the expensive ones and you get 3x as much. I did my research and this one had the best reviews for the cost. If you have pets or kids this is so worth the money!

10 Month Review...

Not as good as my Bissell Green Machine, but a whole lot cheaper (especially on sale) and does a good job. Water extraction is very good for this level of carpet cleaner. Water capacity is good. Noise level is tolerable. Light weight and easy to handle/maneuver. Good cord length. You need to go slow to get the best results on soiled areas - i.e., the scrub brushes and solution need time to work. Pre-treatment and extra passes may be needed for heavy soiling, which is (likely) true with all residential carpet cleaners...including Big Green. I prefer to use the hand-held unit for stubborn stains on pile carpet so I can scrub deep into the fibers. I sometimes spray really bad areas with other (stronger) household all-purpose cleaners...after trying them on a small hidden area first for color-fastness (and be sure to rinse thoroughly). Definitely satisfied!

I should have bought this year's ago!
Easy to assemble, easy to use, easy to clean and refill! Not too heavy and has excellent suction!!
Note: You will need to buy more cleaning solution as the bottle that came with it didn't go far! Canadian Tire or Home Depot have large jugs of carpet cleaners for reasonable prices. Delivery was also one day earlier which was great!!
If you're thinking of purchasing a carpet cleaner this is the one!! Go for it! You won't be sorry!

Not really a problem if you're taking your time to make sure you are doing a good job and getting it right

The Hoover Power Scrub Deluxe Carpet Cleaner works extremely well for the price. One of the big advantages of this is the ability to take apart the brushes on the bottom to clean out each one individually when you are finished. The only thing I'd change is the size of the clean water container. If your carpet is heavily soiled and requiring several passes you will find that you are filling the tank 4-5 times per room. Not really a problem if you're taking your time to make sure you are doing a good job and getting it right. (This is why I still give this product 5 stars) Also if you like to rinse after you have cleaned you will be filling the clean water tank even more.
It's extremely quick to set up and begin to use so it's not really going to be a hassle to use this even for a quick cleanup. The mechanical furniture and stair brush is also very nice and works well, getting even the toughest stains out. Powerful suction also means your carpets won't take long to dry as most of the dirt and water are removed after a couple of passes. Heavily soiled areas may take a bit longer to dry due to the extra water and cleaner needed but I think it's worth the extra dry time to be able to get stains out with such a low priced but great working cleaner.
