The Quietforce is solidly built and some effort has gone into muffling noise. I find the vacuum works best on solid floors using the hard floor brush (which is nice and wide). The extending wand is solid and does not appear to leak much air (both are often weak points in less expensive vacuums). The canister rolls easily. That is about as far as I get before finding shortcomings; these include:
-The power-head is unsatisfactory. It lacks a height adjustment for different flooring and carpet types. It lacks a light. You have to lean down to disconnect it (competing brands have a latch you can tap with your foot).
-The 3-in-1 crevice tool / dusting brush is poorly designed. The dusting brush stores around the crevice tool, and when you want to use the brush, you slide it out beyond the crevice tool (this alone is annoying). The brush itself is small, but the main problem is that the crevice tool is still under the bristles. Get the wrong angle (e.g. on the edge of a piece of furniture) and you are now scraping along with the crevice tool.Read more ›
Next I did the wood floor. It has an attachment you can use, but I just turned off the beater bar (the canister and the beater Bar have seperate buttons) and did the rest of the house. Although the self propel is also off, it has wheels so it was very easy to maneuver. I also vacuumed the tile. This machine did it all, and not once did it fling dirt while on the hard surface like my old vacuum tended to do.
I love this vacuum!!!
All tools seemed to do their job and together with the handy extension wand, I was able to get those tough areas on the ceiling and under the couch. The floor brush worked great on my stairs as well. I found that the power nozzle worked well on both the carpets, rugs and wood floors, so the dedicated floor tool is really unnecessary-just remember to turn the brush off when you're cleaning hard surfaces.
I found this unit had more than enough suction to deal with everything I threw at it-no complaints there. The canister has a variable (5 speed) suction control, which is nice when you want things quieter and don't need all that power. Together with the suction regulator on the handle, I was able to dial in a combination of settings that got me the speed and suction I needed for the task at hand. Other features: It has a HEPA filter and an automatic cord rewind on the canister. The canister is relatively light when you need to pick it up by it's handle.
This is supposed to be a quiet machine. How quiet is it? Well, that all depends on what you deem as quiet. On a hard surface it registered 80db on my ipad db meter app, around 77db on a carpet with the brush turned off and around 85db on a carpet with the brush turned on. So, it is relatively quiet, relative being the operative word here. Also, the back wheels on the power nozzle squeaked right out of the box. Gotta get some WD40 on there.Read more ›
The Hoover Quietforce Bagged Canister got here just in time. Apologies in advance to any Buddhists, but thanks to the amazing suction on this thing, many spiders lost their lives that day, my friends. By the time I got around to cleaning up after myself, they had lodged in almost every corner of the ceiling, webs and all. And that's where the extendable tube of the Hoover came in handy. It really made getting all the webs and the spiders very easy. And the gnats and other crawlies? Gone. There's a neat fitting that has a crevice tool that extends out into a brush with nice long bristles. Sort of like having three tools in one, as the other end is an upholstery tool as well.
The vacuum is also equipped with a very good carpet head and this works very well on my rugs. The suction was so strong on "high", it almost would not let me release it from the bare floor! They even let you put the power head on the back of the canister like a little caboose when not in use. The wood floor / tile tool is very nice, wide and swivels just like the power head.

It does a great job. I am very pleased with this vacuum. It is quiet compared to my last one.
Would recommend it to anyone who likes canister vacuums
For this price I expect little hassle. However, the head keeps coming off, and I don't mean the detachable area. I mean the area that conceals the wiring. Read morePublished 4 months ago by Home Owner
Quiet and light - hope it stands up to the Hoover name. I was hesitant with a few of the reviews but I needed asap.Published 5 months ago by South Texas
Not near as well-built as I hoped for the price. Bought in Dec2014. The hose just tore apart.Published 7 months ago by M. Billman
It would be fantastic except for 1) no on off button on handle, and 2) the brush and edger are not
very good... Will buy a full brush and separate edger.. Read more
So far I like it. It isn't real heavy duty, but great for bare floors, and light carpets.Published 15 months ago by Amazon Customer
