This is a truly heartwarming story. We were taken on a journey that we were mesmerized by. The characters are lovable and unforgettable and the Wawa's came alive to us. We laughed, we cried, but most importantly , we were able to experience the meaning of friendship and loyalty. We can't wait to share this wonderful story with our four grandchildren.

Hop About is such a warm and fuzzy read - pun intended! Set in the wonderful world of Wawas, stuffed animals that are alive with hearts and souls, this adventure begins in New York City and whisks readers halfway around the world as Benny, Mr. Rabbit and their colorful companions go searching for a long lost friend in the wilds of the Australian outback. Krainin has built a super detailed world here, one that's amazingly enjoyable to hang out in. But when the story kicks into gear, its these fuzzy little characters that tug at your heartstrings as they find the true meaning of belonging, loss and friendship. The book really blew me away because it's not afraid to dig deep into emotions that so many young readers can relate to - wrapped in a cozy setting I'm sure the author could return to over and over. Benny and Mr. Rabbit have many more adventures to go on...

This is a delightful story of urban living and jet age travel from the perspective of diminutive stuffed animals. That does not discount the role that living animals and even humans, such as the ever friendly and helpful door man Pedro, play in the adventures. Colin Krainin uses masterful language to describe the exciting adventures from New York City to Australia, even highlighting the suffering by the animal kingdom in the devastating wildfires Down Under. The struggle of evil and good is expressed artfully through the outward actions of the characters to show true love for their friends. This is all wonderfully enhanced by the beautiful illustrations.

Pretentious and absurdly verbose for a children's book. I am college educated & an avid reader but I still had to digest what I was reading in this book. It felt as if the author was more interested in displaying his vast vocabulary than in writing a quality, enjoyable children's book. I wanted to scream, "we get it!! You got a 900 on the verbal on the GRE but your target audience still believes in the Easter Bunny. Take a break from the thesaurus." This was meant to be an Easter basket treat but it's going back.

I stumbled upon this happy little book while looking for something that might entertain my young readers (and the adults who listen)! I’ve participated in Zoom reading time over the past few months, and I wanted to find a book that would ignite the imagination (important in the era of screens) and bring a sense of joy and peace during these disconcerting times—the first two chapters did not disappoint. The text reminded me a modern version of “The Phantom Tollbooth” in both vocabulary and imagery. The richness of the words added depth to the story for the adults in the room and presented a chance for the children to expand their personal lexicon. We cannot wait to follow the adventure and hope that the characters are back for more!

On its surface, Hop-About is a sunny tale about a vibrant group of stuffed animals (wawas) who set about a mission to find a lost friend. But in this novel, Krainin explores universal themes at the core of the "coming of age" experience, including love's many dimensions, how one develops a sense of belonging and art as a means for understanding reality, among others. Rooted in familiar and forged friendships, the wawas' journey from New York City to Australia's outback is animated by the intricacies of living in a human-sized world. Their triumphs and tribulations evoke strong memories of one's childhood as their approach to life seems to embody the unadulterated way in which children relate to truth, justice and love. In this lovable novel, it's hard not to warm to the peculiar personalities and dedicated friendships Krainin knowingly renders in this volume, both human and wawa.

Excellent book for early-adolescents. With vivid adjectives, the author develops entertaining and meaningful interactions between the characters in a way that reinforces basic principles of compassion, empathy, and exploration. The stuffed characters interact together to express innocence and wisdom as they navigate the human and fictional world. The life lessons are accessible while interjecting suspense and humor at appropriate moments.

Hop-About is an engrossing tale of friendship, adventure, and love. The world of the wawas comes alive through rich, detailed narrative, and you are immediately drawn into the story by the characters’ quirky and loveable personalities. Hop-About does it all - tugs at the heartstrings, makes you laugh out loud, keeps you in suspense, and incorporates big emotions and big ideas (like Einstein’s theory of relativity) in ways that are easily accessible to younger readers. Highly recommend.
