The Mesmerist by Pam McCutcheon
On the eve of her wedding, dog trainer Gina Charles flees her unfaithful fiancé to a hotel where a ghost cuddles up to her in the middle of the night—former mesmerist Drake Manton. She agrees to help him learn how he died, but when her investigation leads her to the old Chesterfield hotel, Gina finds a hope chest in the ruins and is drawn to the melted dueling pistol inside. When she touches it, she hurtles back in time to 1883 where she comes face-to-face with the very alive, very sexy mesmerist. Now all Gina has to do is prevent Drake’s fiery death so she can return to her own time. Or will she give up her life in the future for a lifetime of love in Drake’s arms?

Police Chief Jess Garrett’s predictable life hits a bump when he meets the awkward waitress so unlike the other women he knows. Drawn together across time, Corrie and the lawman fall in love. Yet how can she let him plan their future, knowing she will return to her own time at the summer solstice? And how far will Jess have to go to keep her safe?

The Thief by Laura Hayden
The thief known as Delgatto stumbles into the ruins of the Chesterfield and finds an old wooden chest. When he touches the gold chain inside, he’s sent back in time, and realizes he’s in the exact time and place where his family’s priceless emerald was last seen. However, when he spies the legendary gem around the neck of a green-eyed beauty at a costume ball, he’s not sure which treasure he wants more—the emerald or the masked beauty wearing it. Trouble is, he has no idea who she is. Perhaps a green-eyed maid named Emily Drewett, who was offered a one-time chance to forget being a maid for one day in order to play Cinderella?

When his path crosses the odd Miss McAllister’s, he finds an unlikely ally in his hunt for justice. However, losing her heart to the sexy Pinkerton was never part of Mac’s plan. About the authors

I've been a reader all my life, starting out with fairy tales and graduating to reading everything in the house when I grew older, including my parents' romances, mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and action/adventure.
If a writer can combine romance and humor with a fantasy, science fiction, or paranormal element, I'm hooked. Add action/adventure, and it's even better!
Since I couldn't find quite enough books that combine these elements, I sat down to write some of my own. Read more about my books on http://www.pammc.com
I now live in Colorado with my rescue dog.

Born and raised in Jackson, Michigan, I've always loved to read. When I decided at age 12 that I wanted to be a writer, my first stories reflected my interest in science fiction (though somehow they always managed a romance as well). I devoured all of Robert Heinlein's books for teens and lived for Star Trek, Lost in Space, Time Tunnel, and the Invaders.
As I went through school, I contributed to a creative writing booklet in junior high school and worked on the newspaper staff in high school, acting as editor during my senior year. Following graduation from Parkside High School in 1974, I attended the local junior college in pursuit of a journalism degree.
However, before I completed my degree, I fell in love and married. My husband, John Fox, joined the Air Force soon after we married and we spent the next twenty years living in various places around the U.S. and in Europe, such as Tacoma, WA; Charleston, SC; Mons, Belgium; Colorado Springs, CO and Biloxi, MS. During that time, we had three children--two boys and girl, who are now grown and have provided me with three wonderful grandchildren.
During these years I discovered romance, which replaced SF as my favorite reading material. I loved to read how these amazing take-charge women survived their adventures and earned the love of the one man perfectly suited for them. My stories reflected this new interest, though I never lost my appreciation for the world of science fiction.
When futuristic romances arrived on the market, it was the best of both worlds. There I found the adventure of visiting new worlds and cultures while still sharing in the emotional journey made by the hero and heroine. I was hooked. I continued writing as we moved from place to place, though the pace slowed as I raised my three children and managed to pick up five cats.
It wasn't until I reached Colorado Springs and learned about a local Romance Writers of America chapter that I went from writing for fun to writing as a career. I joined the chapter and learned the business. I became part of a critique group, the Wyrd Sisters, and grew as a writer. After five years, four completed books, and a move to Biloxi, I finally sold my first book to Leisure Love Spell.
My first book, Sword of MacLeod, made the Ingram's Bestseller List as did my second book, Somewhere My Love. In fact, I was thrilled when I learned that Somewhere My Love was a RITA finalist in 1998 for Best Paranormal. This book was also a finalist in Affaire de Coeur's Reader Awards, The Award of Excellence from Colorado Romance Writers, and FF&P's PRISM Award. After losing my editor, I had a brief dry spell until I sold a book of my heart--a contemporary fantasy entitled Prince of Charming --to Berkley/Jove. Since then, I sold three more contemporary fantasies to Berkley/Jove and wrote two books in series done with some of my Wyrd Sisters. My second contemporary fantasy, Buttercup Baby, was a 2002 winner of the Booksellers' Best Award.
I'm currently a member of Pikes Peak Writers, Novelist Inc., and Romance Writers of America and I work on the annual Pikes Peak Writers Conference and Novelist Inc conference..
Now that my husband has retired from the Air Force, we're making our home in the Rocky Mountains outside Colorado Springs, CO. Now retired from my job at The MITRE Corporation as a Technical Support Specialist, I spend my time at home writing, surrounded by deer, turkeys and the occasional bear,
I love writing books with that little twist from the ordinary. I hope you enjoy reading them as well. You can visit my website at http://karenafox.com or email me at karen@karenafox.com.

All are about four gals & one guy that are thrown back in time from 2014 to the Chesterfield Resort in the 1800's. You will meet the different employee's of the Chesterfield & grow to love each of them.
The first book, "The Mesmerist" is about Gina Charles, a dog trainer. She is to be married & as the rehearsal is about to begin she discovers her future husband & her maid of honor rehearsing the honeymoon in the back of the lemo. Needless to say she is so upset she gets in her car with her little dog Scruffy & just takes off driving. She ends up in Virginia checking tearfully into a motel. In her room attempting to drown her sorrows in booze she is confronted by the ghost of Drake Manton. In trying to help him find out how he died she ends up at the old ruins of the Chesterfield where she finds a hope chest filled with various old items. As she picks up an old dueling pistol which starts to vibrate she tumbles back to 1883. From there she encounters the one person, Miss Ezmeralda Sparrow, head housekeeper, who is the only one who actually knows what's going on & why she was brought back in time. From there it's a race to figure out who killed Drake Manton & prevent it from happening so that Gina can go back to her own time.
The second book, "The Lawman," takes Corrie Webb back to 1886 at the winter solstice. She's a chef & will try to prevent Chief Garrett from being killed. There were several chuckles in this one especially when Corrie encounters Buford the mule. It made me laugh out loud.
Next, the third book in the series, "The Prince" finds Cynda Madison, an artist, in 1889 searching for the killer of Prince Dimitra Karakov. There are more encounters in each book with Esme Sparrow & you grow to love her & try to put together the puzzle of what she is planning in bringing each of these gals back in time. Even though there are hints, I couldn't figure out what her motive could be.
In the fourth book, "The Thief" you meet Delgoto, the thief...but he's not just any thief--he's the "King of Thieves" & at 38 years old he's challenged by another thief, "The Kid" who is threatening his hard earned fame. His lady love will be quiet, reserved Emily who is a waitress at the Chesterfield.
The fifth book, "The Pinkerton" was my favorite. The detective, Jared Yates, meets his match in feisty newspaper reporter Trish "Mac" McAllister. Mac comes from 2014 & ends up aboard the train going to the Chesterfield. When she gets off the train it's 1892 & her first encounter with Esme is so funny. Esme is dressed in the typical 1800's style, a hat with stuffed birds on it, long dress complete with bustle. After Mac, a mouthy 21st century gal, thinks she's put Esme Sparrow in her place, she finds out that she's not dealing with just any old prim & proper lady from the 1800's. Mac decides "she wouldn't underestimate a woman wearing a tweety bird hat again.
Everything is finally pulled together & the reader finds that each person brought back has an intricate part in in forming the whole story.
My only problem with this series was the explicit sex that could have been toned down a lot because it was not necessary for the story's development.
Once you read the whole series you will realize how very gifted each of these writers are. To write five different books with the same theme & have them blend so well going from book to book is nothing short of amazing.
I would recommend this series to anyone because it is so well written & the story so different from the usual time-travel out there. Truly a keeper that I've read now twice & won't hesitate to read again in a few years.
These stories were well written and very intriguing. The intimacy was tastefully written and incorporated a true passion born out of love.
