Most Reverend José H. Gomez | Archbishop of Los Angeles
“Hope to Die reminds us that we are made for glory, for eternity in the beautiful city of God. I pray that it will lead many to seek to grow in holiness and love and to know that we are a people made for heaven.”
George Weigel | Distinguished Senior Fellow and William E. Simon Chair in Catholic Studies, Ethics and Public Policy Center
“A wise Catholic theologian once said that death is the only thing we really have to look forward to. Scott Hahn beautifully explains the truth inside that paradox, and in doing so leads us into a deeper appreciation of both creation and redemption.”
Teresa Tomeo | Author and Radio Host of Catholic Connection and The Catholic View for Women
“This book is an important resource not only for those in ministry but for all Catholics who want to better understand and appreciate our dignity from conception until natural death and beyond.”
Fr. Sebastian White, O.P. | Editor-in-Chief, Magnificat
“Hahn has written a book about a topic that affects every single person on this planet: death. It is clear from these pages that his great desire is for readers to understand the truth about themselves, about God, and about their supernatural destiny to be with him in heaven, soul and body.”

"Scott Hahn and Emily Stimpson Chapman provide a com¬pelling and nourishing account of our reasons to hope in the promise of our own bodily resurrection. Written with intelligence and deep faith, Hope to Die is a testament to the enduring truth that, in Christ Jesus, we shall rise again."
Fr. Matt Malone, S.J., Editor in Chief, America Magazine
"This book will help us be the Christian people we are called to be."
Kathryn Jean Lopez, Senior Fellow, National Review Institute and Editor-at-Large, National Review; Author, A Year with the Mystics
"This is a book that should be read by those who want to prepare for death and to those who are preparing others for death."
Janet Smith, Author of Self-Gift: Humanae Vitae and the Thought of John Paul II
"Hope to Die is the patient, tender, but weighty explanation of why we honor the flesh that awaits its resurrection, redemption, and divinization."
Damon Owens, Founder of JoyTOB.org and Former Executive Director of the Theology of the Body Institute
"'To be a disciple of Jesus isn't to see some things differently; it's to see everything differently.' So many Christians, in fact, only see some things differently, and more often than not see most things through the lenses of the world. Scott helps us to see everything differently, and through the lenses of the Scriptures and Church teaching. What a gift!"
Fr. John Riccardo, Executive Director of Acts XXIX and host of the Christ is the Answer radio program

I'm afraid that I have to review this particular book, "Hope to Die" as simply average. I did not find it balanced in its claims of bodily burial versus cremation to be anything specific. As a matter of fact, Dr. Hahn leans on a very few passages from St. Tertullian and Pope Gregory for his argument against cremation. The rest here seems to be written of what his belief is even though the Church has allowed cremation in modern times. Just about the only reason he gives that the ancient Church wouldn't allow it is that it is what the pagans did; ie Romans and Greeks. There are lots of inuendos that even though the Church now allows it, it is still very wrong. One of the better reasons to allow cremation of anybody is all the human bodies that are dissected by medical students. The overlying message here is cremation is a sin and bodily burial is the way to heaven. Never mind that God is more than fully capable of raising anybody in any condition back to life!
Even though Dr. Hahn mentions these things that I have listed here, he does not give due diligence to both sides of the issue. It seemed to me that he was on a mission to push a personal agenda here. I have never seen him do this in any other book without sufficient balance to both sides of any book he has written. I've read over 30 of them and own them as well.
This book clocks in at just under two hundred pages and is indeed one of his shortest written. Surprisingly, this even with a co-author. It also feels rushed to me. I sincerely hope that this is not some kind of contractural/money-grabbing venture. I have to rate this book with three stars simply because he does not give equal time to the perfectly allowed practice by the Catholic faith of cremation. Also, the book seems to be done quickly and he needed a co-author for 200 pages!
Read "Hail, Holy Queen" and "The Lamb's Supper" instead and see what Dr. Hahn can truly deliver. This review will surely upset Dr. Hahn's many, many die-hard fans and readers out there, but along with "The Fourth Cup" it seems that Dr. Hahn is getting a bit weary here.
God Bless.
Scott Hahn talks mainly about burial versus cremation.
I originally bought the book hoping to obtain insights about how a person is fulfilled after death and further enhanced thru the final resurrection. For example, how is a person's love for Christ and love for his fellow man enhanced thru death when the physical limitations of the body are removed? How is it further enhanced thru the final resurrection? Will we be at one with God's will after the final resurrection? You will find none of these answers in this text.
However you're feeling right now about life and death, you will come away blessed when you finish this book.
Anyone who wants to know why we must treat the human body with reverence and respect should read this book.
