~ What ~
At four hundred pages, this hardbound targets children ages six to ten years old who want a daily devotional regarding the Bible. Using mainly the New King James Version of the Holy Bible, the AMP, ESV, ICB, NASB, KJV, NIV, NLT, TLB, and The Message are used. 30 Days with Jesus and 90 Days through the Bible guides with journaling pages complete the book with advertisements. A gold ribbon marker is attached.
Each numbered page is dedicated to a day of the year with the date and title at the top of the page with a short written out Bible verse. Several paragraphs cover the topic, mainly correlating current day events, the author’s memories, or famous individuals with Scripture. Encouraging thoughts and hopeful reminders are included, written for elementary school children to understand.
~ Why ~
Emphasizing Bible verses to be read daily, this devotional for young ones is an ideal way to stimulate day-to-day reading. The highlight of the book is that it matches the adult version with the same title so parents and their children can read the same concepts for each day and discuss them. I liked how the ending had two ways of daily Bible reading for 30 or 90 days (although the 90 day section skips several books of the Bible).
One example I enjoyed is February 2nd titled “Always with Us” with Psalm 84:11 written out. After asking readers what are some of their happiest times, the paragraphs show how Jesus wants to be a part of every experience and moments of our lives whether they are good or bad and that He is with us always, wherever we go.
~ Why Not ~
Children who do not have a personal relationship with Jesus may not be interested in this book. Others may be too young to understand some of the ideas and concepts.
~ Who ~
World-renowned preacher, evangelist, and author, Graham has ministered the Gospel of Christ to others in over 185 countries.
~ Wish ~
I wish the book included short prayers at the end of the devotions to help children adapt to praying daily to God, establishing deep and ongoing relationships with Him.
~ Want ~
If you have or know a child in first to fifth grade who wants a yearly devotion of God and the Bible, this would make a thoughtful gift.
Thanks to Book Look Bloggers for this complimentary book that I am freely evaluating.
Each page offers the date, a title, a verse, and a devotional story for better understanding. The page is formatted well, which makes it easy to read. I love that it covers a wide variety of topics and each one is easy for kids to understand. My 8 year old has been reading through this daily without any issues. She asks questions when needed, but has overall found it to be easy to understand. Reading her daily devotional has become part of her daily routine now and she really enjoys starting her day off with her faith in mind.
The last few pages of the book offer “30 days to Jesus” and “90 days through the bible”. 30 days to Jesus walks you through the life of Jesus. 90 days through the bible is exactly what it sounds like… reading the bible cover to cover in 90 days. There’s also a page to take notes on as well as a built in bookmark so that you don’t lose your spot.
Disclosure of Material Connection: I received this book free from the publisher. I am under no obligation to write a review, but chose to do so on my own. All opinions remain my own and weren’t influenced. My opinions may differ from others as well as those of the company.
You all know I love a good kids child devotional book! Did you know that once I go through the story with my kids I give these books I get for free as prizes to kids for our church movie night? I love that many kids in my town are able to go home with the word of God accessible to them!
So I love what Billy Graham's ministry has done over the centuries and this kids devotional book is a great tool to have for your family. The stories are very brief yet easy to relate to for kids and adults. Each page has a title, a short scripture, and a story to go along with it. The stories are encouraging and uplifting so whether you want to start your day with a positive or end it with a positive this book is sure to be a delight for your family devotional time. Don't have a devotional time with your family?? It's easy to do get a Bible or devotional like this one and pick a time to read each day with your family. Take time discussing what it means and then pray together.
There is one thing that I wish was different in this devotional. Its not a big deal since the book comes with a bookmark but if your like me you want to start the book at the beginning. Well, I got this book about a month ago and page one doesn't Devotional #1 it has January 1st. So if you are like me and don't start right at the beginning of the year the dates at the top don't align correctly. Not a big deal but just one I wanted to mention if you are a little OCD about things like that! I am currently reading a couple stories a day to get us caught up on the correct day.... I know it is silly of me but being honest in these reviews.
