I loved the heroine. She was so strong but yet vulnerable at the same time. She lived through things that people today can only imagin, and she came out on top.
I liked the hero. He could be sweet, but he had that edge to him that I love in my hero. I do wish that the author had showed him wallowing in misery a bit more. She showed his anger, but I would have loved to see him become a unrepentant rake. Drinking, gambling, and womanizing. I love watching a guy fall apart after his heart has been broken. :)
The writing flowed well. It kept me interested; it's a book you just can't put down! I read that there was editing issues but I believe the book has be edited again, because I did not notice any errors. There are a few phrases that sound a little weird, but I believe that is because she was attempting to use more formal language. (Which is often seen in historical books.)
I did feel that the story could have been fleshed out a bit better. The hero's mother could have played a much larger role; I think that her controlling and uncaring nature could have added depth to the story. I also think that the story of her family could have been played up a bit.
I read a few reviews that say that the first half of this book is not a romance. Because of those, I considered not buying it. After reading it, I have to disagree. Yes the first half showed how the H & h dealt with their heart break, but I always felt that it was romance driven. Granted the H & h were not together, but everything they did seemed to lead their thoughts to the other.
Over all it was a great story; a must read for those of you who love historical romance.

I believe what happened to the heroines younger sister was not needed for progression of the story. I almost feel as if it was added for shock value. The way it was handled left me shaking my head. I thought that the heroine's father (and brother to a lesser extent) should have had to pay more for their sins. I'm fine with her sending them off, but we needed to know what happened to them. I felt that left a big hole in the story. This alone knocked my rating from 5 to 4 stars.
There are a few imperfections. I noticed the "flower" instead of "flour" too, but seriously, such mistakes were few and far between. There was a time or two near the end of the book where I thought a thread of the story didn't really work but again, it was more like needing just a touch more polishing than anything really distracting.
Yes there are some editing errors, but if you can get past those mistakes, then you can enjoy the story. I highly recommend to anyone 13+...

It tells the story of an earl's son and the housemaid who ends up pregnant by him.
Her life is one major rollercoaster of disaster being followed by amazing good luck , followed by more disaster and so on .
Sometimes the writing style was a bit too simplistic, skirting over some very serious subjects but the general storyline kept me interested.

The story is moving gracefully depicting the life of the upper/middle class and the gruesome conditions of the lower class. It is refreshing to see how the characters develop from selfish adolescent to responsible adult. My only complaint is the using of some modern words although not much. All and all is a very interesting read.
