Dani’s love for Cohen is absolute and unwavering. You can feel the deep love she has for him. Cohen fought his feelings for a long time due to family dynamics and age differences but for Dani there was never a doubt who she belonged too. When Cohen left for his mission, I thought their story would mirror Axel and Izzy’s (Dani’s parents) but they had a different outcome. Their coming together was sexually explosive and emotional and worth every word. We meet Chance in this story, his character makes you want to know more about him and hope he gets a happy ending.
Liam & Meagan (3rd Place)
My first thought before reading this book was…why does Meagan have a story? In the first book, she was depressed and in mourning because she lost her husband, the father of her daughter and love of her life. So my question was, how can she fall for someone else with the same intensity? I’m not feeling Meagan, its two or three years later and she is still throwing a pity party for someone we find out she wasn’t even in love with. He was her best friend and she’s acting like she lost her soul mate and can’t move on. She now has all these beautiful friends around her and she still feels alone…get over it already. She is keeping Liam at arm’s length because she is scared of the deep feelings he invokes. The whole game gets boring. Liam trying to win her affection and her pushing him away. There is just too much angst. On another note, her daughter Molly has so much love to give everyone around and is a sweetheart. Chance is only mentioned once; he is away on a mission.
Nate & Ember (2nd Place)
Started off with two things I don’t like in main characters – Stripper and Man Ho. After Ember admitted her feelings for Nate on her graduation night and he didn’t respond in kind, they go their separate ways. It’s been three years since her graduation and although she continued to moon over Nate and started skipping family dinners not to run into him, he moves on with his life. He was all about having fun and all the sex he could get. No thought to Ember romantically until her 21st birthday. He admitted his love finally and worked at showing her by his actions. There was no Chance in this story, not even a memory.
Now if THIS were a movie I would have turned around and paid to see it again after finishing. Even though this was Dani Reid and Cohen Cage’s love story which was a long time in the making and was so worth the read, Mr Axel Reid stole the show so many times throughout the book. I have loved every book in this series but I think because Axel’s story was first and he was so over the top he has a special place in my heart and seeing how he was with his daughter was priceless and funny as hell!!!
I absolutely love that even though this was the start of the second generation of the men we came to love in Corps Security the author still had them be a pretty prominent part of the story. The title of this book, Unexpected Fate, perfectly describes the love that started between Dani and Cohen at a very young age. There is a part in the book where Dani’s mom Izzy is describing to her why she things that it was fate that had her go through the hell she did all those years ago. I won’t spoil it but it was beautiful coming from Izzy who always thought fate was against her before she found Axel again.
It was such a treat to get to meet all the kids that are now grown from Axel, Cage, Beck, Cooper, Maddox and Sway – YES Sway’s daughter is one of Dani’s good friends!! Another cool thing that happens in this book is the author sets up her new series about a rock back called Loaded Replay. She certainly piqued my interest in the band members.
Bleeding Love - Liam Beckett and Megan's story
Liam Beckett lives up to the proverb of like father like son. Which means the son will have traits similar to his father upon reaching adulthood and boy does he ever.
The woman that Liam determines is his has emotionally shut down to prevent her heart from ever breaking again. There were times early in her grief of losing her husband that even her daughter couldnt bring her out into the light.
Through the friendship of Cohen Cage who served with her husband and his wife Dani she has allowed herself to open up just enough to allow friends in but yet still keeping her deepest secrets to herself. She finds herself attracted to Liam but is so afraid of opening herself up again that she's been pushing him away for years.
Liam finally decides he's had enough and smothers her and her daughter with kindness and love in hopes that she will eventually let her barriers she has erected over her heart down enough to trust him and allow herself to feel and be loved.
There were many times I found myself misty eyed through out this book but I also felt it mirrored just a little to closely to Dee and Beckett's story so it lacked a little originality.
Overall I enjoy all of these characters and getting to now read the next generation of a great group of men and women who I came to love in the Corp Security series.
When I'm With You - Nate Reid and Ember Locke's story
Its always a huge treat for fans of a previous series to get to get the stories of the children. This is the third book in the break-off series and I love them as much as I did their parents stories.
Nate Reid.. I didn't know how his story was going to go. He was such a little turd growing up torturing his sister with all his teenage masturbation. It was both fitting and humorous on the career/job he finally made happen for himself when he grew up. Even though he broke Ember's heart a time or two before finally manning up and claiming her – in his mind he did it for the right reasons and was willing to do what ever it took to show her he was finally ready to be that forever man for her.
Ember Maddox.. Not surprised that she was such a sweet artistic soul. As with Dani Reid she knew from a very young age who she wanted and that was Nate. She had to go through some heartbreak and waiting for Nate to grow up before she got him but it was a bittersweet journey that was worth it in the end.
I followed the Corps Security series and was always curious about what their futures would look like. I was so invested in the characters, that when the series came to an end, I felt as though I had lost an entire group of friends. Hearing that there would be a series featuring the children, and thereby other family members, I was hooked. These books have heart, laughs, some intrigue, and love. The bundle features some awesome bonus material not featured elsewhere, also!
A great read and a great bundle!
And Oh My God, Sway once again stole my heart and had me laughing my butt off!! I cannot wait for the next book in this series!
