But she managed it.
Sara Worthing wants a marriage where she is loved for herself, not for her dowry. She becomes engaged to Daniel Raine, a man she has met only through his letters but who she is confident doesn’t want her for her money. When she meets she is pleased to find he’s as attractive in person as he was in his letters. And he seems just as attracted to her.
But, at the risk of using a cliché, the course of true love never did run smooth and it’s practically a rule of romance novels that trouble must come. As it does. And while I’m not going to spoil the story by telling you what happens, I will say it was great to see both characters turn to and rely on God in their difficulties.
Despite the romance, I think my favourite character was Will, Daniel’s brother who lives on the farm with Daniel and Sara. He is a loveable reprobate who provides a lot of the comic relief in the drama with lines like, “next time, could you save staring an argument with my wonderful cook of a sister-in-law until after she’s made us food?” I do hope Will gets his own happy-ever-after at some point in the series …
The unusual thing about this series is that the books aren’t sequential – A Hope Unseen takes place on the exact same timeline as No One’s Bride. This does provide a few moments of confusion when it references No One’s Bride—while I thought it was excellent, I don’t remember every plot detail and I’ve read dozens of books since then.Read more ›
By: Nerys Leigh
A Hope Unseen is book two in the Christian historical romance series of Escape to The West by Nerys Leigh . This is a series and even though you can read it by itself it is best if read them in order. The author captured me right at the start and did not let go till the end. I love these mail order bride stories and Nerys Leigh did not disappoint me. This is Sara and Daniel’s story. Sara believes when you marry it should be for love. She goes way out and answers an ad for a mail order bride. Sara and some other ladies travel together across America to meet and marry the man they have agreed to marry. Can Sara marry a man she has not never met, but through letters? What about Daniel , is Sara what he thought she would be? I cannot even think that I would travel across country to marry a man that I had never met. This is a very heart warming story and I really loved reading it. There was times when I felt tears in my eyes and was holding my breath, and trying to read faster.
I was given a complimentary ARC copy of this book, but was not told that I had to give a positive review. All opinions are my own.
Book 1 was fast passed, thrilling and the events which followed not at all predictable.
Book 2 was romantic, full of suspense and I struggled to put the book down to take a break.
The plot and story line is very well written and I lived myself into the story.
I found myself wondering if there are still things such as Mail order brides these days and if people still write to each other, all be it via email.
I'm sure its easier falling in love this way.
I was wondering how Sarah would manage having another man around while trying to get to know her new husband. The author made the atmosphere seem relaxed and I especially enjoyed the playful banter between brothers.
Her writing style is truly unique and lovable.
I highly recommend this book to everyone who Iikes a good romance and suspense.
I volunteered to write a review in exchange for a copy of the book.
The sweet, new love between the couple is really touching. When something occurs that threatens their fledgling marriage, it's heartbreaking.
This is such a powerful novel about what true love, compared to falling in love, really is.
The pacing is just right, the characters are believable, and the dialog is accessible and relatable. I loved the historical details, but appreciated how the focus was clearly on the storytelling.
There is so much depth to this story -- it not only enriched my reading life, it provided inspiration for my own life, and helped me feel closer to God.

Very predictable plot that became silly and far fetched in parts. My last try with this author.Published 1 day ago by Janet
