These are some of my favorite comics, and BREAK is one of the strongest entries in the series -- right up there with GROUND ZERO. While BREAK centers on the youngest member of the family, Zero, it does a wonderful job of spotlighting the rest of the Hopeless-Savage family members, along with catching up with, and expanding on, some of the great supporting characters (Ginger, Tiffany, the members of the Dusted Bunnies) from the previous series.
HOPELESS SAVAGES has a history of strong artists (Bryan Lee O'Malley, Andi Watson, Chynna Clugston and Christine Norrie); the tradition continues with BREAK, which introduces (to me, anyway) Meredith McClaren. McClaren has a distinctive style that I really enjoyed in BREAK; she captures each of the characters and underscores their uniqueness, in a distinctive style which is quite different from that of the previous series' artists (but nonetheless perfect for this story.)
Over the years, I've come to really love these characters; I hope Van Meter has some additional stories to tell about them. As long as she does, I'll be damned happy to buy them and read them.
