This is one of my better buys from Amazon.
As an option, offer longer hoses. While the hose is long enough for just about anything, I use it to fuel my little boat. The hose have to reach from the gas can on the dock to the boats fuel tank. It does, but another foot of hose would make me feel much more comfortable---I do not want to spill any fuel in the water.
Another reviewer complained about the hose being kinked, and that's how mine arrived. To fix that issue, I used pairs of curved jaw Vise-Grips with rubber on the serrated jaws to protect the hose from being damaged.
I adjusted the vise grips to close on the kinked parts of the tube just enough to round out the hose, then left them in place for about three days in a warm place inside the house. The kinks are gone.
I store the siphon in a place where it doesn't get too cold and stiff, which makes it easier to handle.
I initially purchased another hose on Amazon that had a larger 3/4" opening. This was not a good product as the hose is too big to maintain the right level of siphon pressure under normal usage.
This product has the CORRECT hose size; it is smaller and more resembled the product I had originally. It siphons with good pressure and is easy to get started.
There are other reviews that criticize the packaging as it leaves the hose with kinks in it. My packaging was no different as my hose had 3 separate kinks in it. I had to gently heat the hose to resolve this.
Feedback is a luxury and in my opinion the manufacturer should have fixed the packaging long ago. If they would have, I'd have given them 5 stars.
Extremely simple operation and concept.
The metal end goes into the fluid...you shake it up and down which creates a pumping action with the ball inside it. This pumps/pulls out the fluid. It pumps surprisingly fast. Once the whole tube is filled it works on its own. Not a gusher like a gas station pump but enough that I had to keep an eye on it to not overflow the receiving jerry can.
FWIW section: I was emptying a diesel fuel tank and got it down to about an inch or 1/2". Hard to tell exactly looking straight down through the gas cap with a flashlight. I have no doubt it would have sucked out more if the siphon end was flush or parallel to the tank bottom.
It probably is not the best choice for small tanks like lawnmowers, etc. This is due to the length of shaking motion needed plus the physical size.
Any rate, I was very satisfied with its performance and happy that something cheap actually worked well.
