Reliable and durable, the Topcon RL-H4C Horizontal Self-Leveling Rotary Laser is a good construction tool that is ideal for site preparation, earthworks, concrete, drainage and site set-out works. It has a range of up to 2,600 feet with a laser receiver and has an accuracy of ±1/16 inches at 100 feet. Also, it self-levels horizontally within ±5 degrees. Originally the Topcon RL-H3C, the H4C is more accurate and precise than ever. The RL-H4C has a uniform rotation speed of 600 rotations per minute. This rotating laser also offers a manual slope match function with automatic cross-axis self-leveling. For an easier and errorless leveling, this laser level comes with an automatic height-of-instrument alert. The Topcon RL-H4C Self-Leveling Rotary Laser has two LCD displays, so it makes it easier to check the data without moving the unit. If you do need to reposition the unit, it has two handles on the body of the machine. The laser uses Nimh batteries, that can run up to 100 hours. With an IP66 rating, the RL-H4C is dustproof and water resistant, making it suitable for use in the field. As an extra feature, it comes with a 5/8-11 tripod thread for easy mounting on a surveying tripod.

Once batteries were installed the unit was up and running. Easy to use and quick startup. Place on tripod (uses 5/8" mount), eyeball leveling within about 5º, and turn on the unit. It will go through a startup procedure taking about a 15 seconds. Once done and it self levels, the laser head will start rotating. I have used it in bright sunlight with no issues. In darker conditions, one may even see the laser beam.
For the receiver I am using the Spectra Precision HL760 Digital Readout Receiver w/Rod Clamp. Very great combination with the Topcon Laser system. Love them both!
I have a PLS line laser unit but it wasn't powerful enough to trigger the sensor receiver. Had to go to a rotating laser.
I could have bought a cheaper system, but decided to spend more money and get a quality unit. I am impressed with the unit and would definitely buy again if I had to.
Comes with a case which holds the laser, spare batteries, 2 laser detectors with mounting bracket.
I like it and am pleased with the performance.
My only regret is I did not purchase one years ago yes its expensive but sometimes the expense save,s you in the long run.
There are many rotary laser out on the market and they are quite affordable nowadays. Still I think the Topcon is by far the most reliable and ragged.
I had for years another brand, no name to be mention, it worked fine, but when it was time to be serious on jobs that require another level of accuracy, I find myself borrowing this from my subs, to the point that they start to make fun on me. According to them I should be the one able to afford such a nice instrument. They were right. This rotary laser is by far the best I have used, from the earring case to the setting up to the ragged and durable design. You can tell right out of the box this is a toll for professional. Is it may be a couple hundred dollars more then some other rotary lasers, but let me tell you, in construction a small mistake or loosing few ours messing around with a subpar tool may cost you much more and really fast. This tool will easily last you years and if you think the durability, easy of use and accuracy...well you do the math, this pay for itself really quick.
