The addition of a smooth radius to the mouth of each shell holder around the shell plate ensures smooth functioning-especially when the shell plate is used with the Lock N Load Case Feeder(sold separately). In addition, the bevel on the retainer spring groove helps keep the spring in place when inserting cases into the shell plate. These shell plates will also work with the older model Hornady Pro-Jector press. This shell plate works with; 17 Remington, 17/222, 17/223, 220VT., 20 Tactical, 204 Ruger, 221 Remington, 222 Remington, 222 Remington Mag., 5.6X50 Mag., 223 Remington, 6mm/223, 6X47 Remington, 6mm TCU., 6.5mm TCU., 7mm TCU., 7mm/223 Ingram, 7X47 Helm, 380 Auto.
Top Customer Reviews
I had some issues with mine that the cases were seating on the plate extremely hard. When you would insert a case, about 60% of my cases were binding in the extractor groove upon insertion. This would was happening with everything from mil-spec Lake City brass, to commercial Winchester brass and everything in between. It was rather random.
Rather than call Hornady for a replacement, I used a file and some sandpaper to remove just a small amount of material from the bottom side of the plate to allow the cases to slide in freely. Be warned, these plates are made of some very hard tool steel, which is very hard to work. Go slow, and gradually remove material from the plate until your cases are easy to insert. Once they are easy to insert, clean everything up with some 320 grit sandpaper.
If you purchase this shell plate, you will know immediately what spot I am talking about if you have this issue.
A note on Hornady's customer service. I have NO doubts that if I would have called them, they would have replaced the plate for free.
It is very well made, will not chip/bent if a case is improperly placed.
I like the stainless look to it, However, you must make sure you keep it nice and clean or it will get blotches from finger prints that will try and oxidize it.
TIP: Buy a tooth lock washer (star on the inside). This will prevent it from coming loose, as it will from time to time. The washer itself are cents on the dollar.
