Horse is a great character. He is unrepentantly an alpha male, but he understands when to temper his instincts--and he didn't have to majorly f$%^ things up to learn this. He is the perfect partner for Gabby. He shelters her when she needs it and encourages her to stand proud when she should. This story perfectly illustrates how the right pairings will become a truly healthy symbiotic relationship. Horse and Gabby lean on each other when necessary. They also learn and/or grow from each others strengths creating the most powerful versions of themselves.
It's wonderful to watch the evolution of Gabby. Sometimes this type of story can come across as the "woman needs a man to be whole" stereotype. But--in true Blevins style--Gabby doesn't need a man, she needs a "village" with a true confidante and personal hero at her side to discover the woman she is. After the very real traumas and misconceptions she has taken on from her past, she has to determine how she wants to live her life moving forward. She explores and expands her inner strengths because Horse makes her feel secure enough to acknowledge and hone them. At the same time, the other people in her life also give her perspectives Horse can't--and Horse is secure enough to not only accept those relationships, but encourage them.
If you follow both the RTMC and Chattanooga Supernaturals series, this installment teaches us a little more of what exists in their world and how things/species/people interact and relate to each other. One of the reasons I truly enjoy Candace's series is because her stories never become formulaic, each step expands and teaches rather than staying static.
If this is the first Candace Blevins book you've read, I strongly urge you to read her other works as well--you will not be disappointed!
In some ways, I want to resist this book because it seems to formulaic and taking advantage of trends rather than be written out of imagination or love of the genre.
We have a motorcycle club. Its erotic. The hero is a bear shifter. He fights.
However, even though I think its fair to say there is too much going on in this book and more time could have been spent with the leads, its a great story of crazy sauce that works and is good.
The writing is very good and distinct. The characters are will developed with interesting backstories (the heroine more than the hero). The hero is kind and awesome. The heroine comes into her own and we have a wonderful opposites attract trope.
The world and culture building is excellent with a great cast. The plot walks the perfect line of conflict and twists without overstepping.
I love the ownership of the rabbit and bear sexuality and the complete comfort with a non monogamous (rooted in DNA and culture) soul mate kind of love.
They are wonderful couple and the love story was a super hot and tender delight.
This story flows smoothly & is a great tale. As with most Candace Blevins stories I love it!! On to Gonzo's story.
Enjoy I did!!
