Hoss is the seventh book in the Rebel Wayfarers MC by MariaLisa deMora, while the first books can be enjoyed as a stand-alone, I feel that with Gunny things shift to a point where if you’ve not devoured the first four books you’ll want to do that before taking a ride on the back of Hoss’ bike. I know I’ve said some version of this same thing in all of my reviews, but it needs repeating — deMora has such a unique voice when it comes to MC books. There are so many out there that go to fictional extremes, you just know there isn’t any way it can be ‘real’. Don’t get me wrong, those books are an awesome escape from reality and I’m addicted to several authors who write them, but deMora writes MC in the sense that it is the lifestyle. Her characters are real and the situations aren’t glorified with extremes.
It is going to be so hard to write this review without spoilers. Probably the hardest review I’ve written in a long time. Hoss is one of the most emotionally charged books I’ve read, profound really. I was anticipating a good read, great even, deMora has yet to disappoint me in that way — what I didn’t expect was to be wrecked in the best possible way. I’ve fallen in BBF love, I’ve hated characters harder than I’ve ever hated, I’ve rooted for, cried for, cheered with, and binge read repeatedly all in the name of the Rebel Wayfarers MC series. Hoss takes all that and triples it. His story is just more. So much more.
Hope has a sister she has never met, a son she loves with every fiber of her being, and a family that abandoned her when she needed them the most. As life throws her yet another curveball she and her son, Sammy, take a leap of faith and go in search of her sister, Mercy.Read more ›
I don't remember how I stumbled onto this series, to be honest, perhaps during an event where the author was a host. I DO remember gobbling up the previous six books, becoming immersed in their lives, their crazy habits, their loves. And I wanted a love like Mica found in Daniel, like Mason found in Willa, like Gunny found in Sharon, and like Bear found in Eddie.
Hope is a character unlike many. An out-of-wedlock pregnancy when she was barely old enough to have graduated high school led to her being disowned by her parents (and yes, I didn't like them all that much; I mean, truly? While the circumstances may not be ideal, children are ALWAYS a blessing and should be celebrated as such in my honest opinion). She leads a hardscrabble life, because the baby daddy is doing time for almost killing her while pregnant (okay, that may be a tiny spoiler, but it's all I'm giving!!)
Finding out that she has a sister she knew nothing about, she ends up in Fort Wayne and under the care and auspices of the Rebel Wayfarers, simply because her sister, Mercy, is "theirs". With a little man (Sammy) in tow, she is so used to being on her own and doing for herself and her son, she doesn't fully grasp what it means that the RWMC has her back.
I loved her relationship with her son. I loved her relationship with her sister. But most of all, I loved the love and affection that she and Hoss developed. This story gutted me several times; I laughed. I cried. I considered throwing my kindle out the window (however, it was raining and I have lots of books to read!).Read more ›
So; now that I've reread the whole series to date and in order (each book is a fantastic story); I'm reading HOSS (book #7). I completely enjoyed the man himself and his part in the MC group. I liked him even when he didn't have a clue as to how to have a relationship with our main heroine HOPE and her wonderful son SAM. It is a beautiful love story between a man, a woman and the growing of what will become a family unit. There were so many ups and downs and ultimately a good drenching of happenings which wrench the reader's heart. (BINGO, we loved him.......).
The twist towards the end just broke my heart but our dear writer finds the way to mend not only her characters but the reader as well because in typical Wayfarer MC fashion their family pulls together and helps one another through the darkest of times.Read more ›
