Midwest Book Review - 5 Stars
Even when you make the best of a bad situation, it's still a bad situation.  "Hostage in Time" follows Amanda Lloyd as she finds herself stumbling back to 1884... an insightful and riveting read that spins an original time travel story.

Amanda is a Jersey girl who is in her twenties. She is realistic as she currently loses her job as a photographer because of the current economy. She drags her friend Carrie onto a historical tour to a local home that belong to a friend (a character made up for the story) of Thomas Edison'. For those who don't know Thomas Edison had his station of creative up in Orange County of New Jersey, so I really enjoyed opening up the book to read that relatable area.

As Amanda is exploring parts of the historical house that are suppose to be off limits to everyone Amanda is transported into the past. There in the past she meets a string of characters as she is accused of being a spy by Jonathan Brisbane who is worried for his friend Thomas Edison's inventions getting into the wrong hands. As Amanda tries to adjust to Jonathan's life so that he can keep an eye on her, his mom, friends, and his ex wife all have different agendas.

Hostage in Time is a historical romance that will warm your heart. Linda Lauren writes beautiful descriptions that make you feel that you are a guest in the Brisbane home in the year 1894. Amanda's reactions to the new world around her in addition to Jonathan's introductions to the future items such as Mace were both funny plus realistic. Her characters were witty, relatable, and constantly thinking of what to do.

The book was a fun light read. I was eagerly flipping through the pages at fast paces to find out what happened next between classes. I love the historical fiction, but I worry with other readers might have a little problem having an actual real historical figure such as Thomas Edison in a fiction book play out as he does later on in the book. The other issue that I had with the book is the change in Jonathan's ex wife's personality, Lavinia. Otherwise this book had twists that I was not expecting. Hostage in Time was a beautifully written story that will grab its readers, leaving them warm and fuzzy.

I'm a history buff. I love thoroughly researched historical fiction written beautifully. Linda Lauren does both in spades. For me "Hostage in Time" is a real "I TOTALLY LOVE this book!"

It allowed me to escape with Amanda and Carrie into what each of us secretly wishes for, a portal into the past, a chance to change history, and the time to find what really matters in life and go for it.

Lauren's writing grabs from the beginning. The plot was surprising and ultimately satisfying. The characters are people, not caricatures. I'd love to share a warm fire on a winter's day and hot chocolate with Amanda and Carrie in real life.

Seconds, please, Ms. Lauren.

Without giving too much away, I read Hostage in Time in one day for once I started to read I was so drawn into this story and the lives of Amanda and Jonathan I could not put it down. I am so intrigued by the idea of time travel, plus the way the story was told - it was fabulous. A must read!

Linda Lauren's new work of fiction combines two of my favorites: romance and time travel! A delightful story that richly evokes the 1880s in luxuriant detail, reminiscent of Jack Finney's Time and Again. Looking forward to more novels from this talented author.

Here's a great book that not only has a terrific story and chivalrous and genteel characters, but really "takes you to the time period." I thoroughly enjoyed following Jonathan and Amanda on a journey across time, and was absorbed in the details and how the story was woven. Linda does a great job of "putting you there" and gives you food for thought. Hostage in Time allowed me a glimpse into the past and made me really appreciate some of the simpler and more "genteel" approaches that life had in the 1800s. I give it a resounding "thumbs up."

A few girls in my office had read this book and loved it. It looked interesting, so I gave it a try. I was not disappointed. I'm not normally a fan of romance novels, but I quickly became a huge fan of this book. It was describe to me as time travel love story, but it had more to it. It was a great story, with relatable characters and vivid descriptions. I loved how Linda Lauren combined romance with history, time travel and adventure. It was a total page-turner. I started reading the book on the train on my way home from work and had to finish it before I went to bed that night.

I finished this book so quick, that I was a little sad. I was definitely left wanting more. I really hope Linda Lauren decides to write a sequel or at least have the book turned into a movie. Hostage in Time would make a great Lifetime movie. The title is even perfect for Lifetime.

What a wonderful book!
