The pans are heavier than I expected, given the relatively low price.
I was nervous trying them, after reading reviews about the cakes sticking to the pan. Alas, two of my cakes from the first batch did stick and break. Probably my fault, for not letting them cool long enough before removing them from the pan.
I also overfilled the first pan with batter, which caused the cakes to look sloppy. I found that 3 to 3 1/2 tablespoons of batter per cake made them just the right size.
I had no sticking problems with the second batch. I sprayed the cavities liberally with nonstick spray. Let the cakes cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then turned the pan upside down onto a silicone baking mat. Tapped the cavities, and lifted the pan up. Most of the cakes fell right out. The couple that didn't fell out upon shaking the pan.
I flipped the cakes over and used the rounded part as the bottom.
Filling the cakes turned out to be the tricky part. I poked three holes in each cake with a chopstick, and inserted the pastry bag. It was difficult getting enough filling in, without having it ooze out of the cakes.
One bag ripped while filling the cakes. Luckily I had two. There was also no kind of rubber band or closure with the bags, to keep the filling from coming out of the top while squeezing.
Other than the minor issues with the bags, I was pleased with this set and do recommend it.
P.S. If anyone is interested in the recipe I used, it's called "Red Velvet Twinks". I found it online. I used a modified version of the cream cheese filling recipe the author used (all cream cheese instead of cream/goat cheese, and added marshmallow fluff for extra stability). I also added a white chocolate drizzle on the cakes.
This pan is made out of a good quality metal. I haven't had any issues with it retaining heat when baking. The non-stick finish is good; however, I always lightly spray the interior with Pam or lightly oil with a pastry brush prior to filling the eight cavities.
The recipe for Hostess TWINKIE Cakeletts is included in the box, along with a pastry bag & decorating tip for filling the eight canals.
I have also used this pan to make hot dog buns...it's the perfect size for my little kid's hands!
CONS: Amazon shipped the product without an "outer" shipping box. Unfortunately, the Twinkie baking pan was coming out of the original box at one of the ends. The Amazon delivery person just laid the "opened" box on my front porch. They didn't even try to push the pan bake into the box!
Thankfully, no "damage" was done to the baking pan.., and all the contents(recipe, pastry bag, decorator tip) didn't fall out.
WHEW, THAT WAS A CLOSE ONE, AMAZON!
