Editorial Reviews

Review

"This series is the answer to the cry of my heart. It's wise, tactical, and preemptive. I've never had another parenting book give me tingles and make me shout, 'Yes! This is it!' I feel empowered and inspired as a parent and have already implemented the Hot Buttons strategies." ~Jill Williamson, Christy-Award winning author

Great quote: "The battle we fight in protecting, shielding, and preparing our teens for life's hot-button issues isn't as black-and-white as a physical battle in which the wins and losses can be easily quantified. We must often blindly face the battles for our kids, operating more on faith than on sight, being obedient to the call of Christ and reliant on the leading of the Holy Spirit." Internet Edition, Page 22

Being a parent of a teen can be challenging, especially in the age of internet, smart phones and must much more that can compete for our teen's attention. Adults know how scary the world can be and yet we know that teens want to be out exploring the world more and more each day. What is a parent to do?

Nicole O'Dell has written a series of books designed especially for Christian parents of teens. Two books, Dating Edition and Internet Edition, have already been released. Two more books, Sexuality Edition and Drugs Edition, are scheduled to be released Fall 2012.

The books are short, easy to understand and filled with Godly advice on many worldly subjects that teens face. What is packed in between these covers is advice that just might save your teens' life and mend any cracks in the parent/teen relationship that can be brewing. The advice is straightforward, but from a Christian standpoint which makes the books very convicting to any parent trying to raise Godly men and women.

The first part of each book details why it is so important for parents to talk to their kids about specific issues which author Nicole O'Dell calls "Hot Button" topics. The second part of each book lays out each specific Hot Button issues for the topic. For example, in the Internet Edition some Hot Button topics are on-line predators and Internet porn.

(Note: This refers to all four of O'Dell's Hot Button Editions)

Fill in the blank.

I don't know how to talk to my tween about_______.

...Sex

...Internet Safety

... Pornography

...Dating

...Drugs

...All Of The Above.

There's a lot of topics parents in my children's ministry struggle to talk about.

I'm always looking to find a resource I can pass along to them, to help start a conversation at home - between parent and child.

It's not easy, but it's important.Actually, it's quite vital. At times, the conversation might even make a difference between life and death.

Nicole O'Dell has created four (two more are pending) books that address the "Hot Button" topics in a tween's life - before they become a problem.

From dating to drugs, modesty to purity, morals to popularity and more - O'Dell tackles the tough issues in her four books: Hot Buttons: Dating Edition, Hot Buttons: Internet Edition; Hot Buttons: Sexuality Edition and Hot Button: Dating Edition.

Each book dives into the topic, lays a foundation for how a parent can discuss the issue, and then tackles some of the "hot" pieces.

The books are small - and could easily fit in a purse or backpack. Each book provides short scenarios and three or four responses a teen might talk about in a particular situation.

I found the books (I dove into the Sexuality Edition and Internet Edition specifically) to be interesting. They may not be comprehensive - OK, let's face it, what book can cover EVERYTHING about a topic. But they are a solid resource that a parent can use.
