From the Author
This story is Book One in my Hostile Operations Team series! If you like hot military guys, lots of action and suspense, and a great love story, this is the story for you. I've also just released a novella in the series, called Hot Mess (Book 1.5). It can be read as a stand-alone story.

Are the characters flawed? You bet they are, and that's what makes me fall in love with them. I don't want to read about perfect characters who do everything right. I want the hero to do something really stupid, realize his mistake, then figure out what he has to do to redeem himself. I want the heroine to be so in love with the hero that she thinks more about saving his ass than her own.
The book had lots of fast-paced action, some nice twists, and the heat and character development. In addition, it had a nice level of military speak and lingo - enough to make it seem genuine but not so much that I got lost in the details. It was a 5-star read for me. And I look forward to reading more in this series.
If you love romantic suspense and cannot get enough, you might enjoy this. I did not. This was typical characters and done-before-plot and action. There was nothing special or different. If I were to recommend something to the author I would say come up with unusual and special characters. Let the characters' personalities create conflicts instead of having them do illogical things. For example:
They have great sex. Afterwards he is cold and insensitive with no explanation. The next time they have great sex, he leaves without a word and does not call her - for four weeks. So he has to apologize.
She loves him. He asks her to go with him to his sisters's wedding. She says no. Later she shows up. They both want to be with each other after the crisis. But when the crisis is over, she says no.
He tells her to stay hidden while he goes after killer thugs. She does not stay hidden. She goes after him because "she wants to help." She has no weapon and no fighting ability. She is a chef. He is a highly trained Army Ranger. This happened three times.
When she first tells him about her problem. She does not mention "organized crime" because she didn't like to think about that.
They are hiding. He sets an alarm for a short nap. She turns off the alarm because she thinks he needs more rest. As a result the bad guys enter and get them.
I would have liked more details about the informant, ambush, and escaping in Iraq. I also wanted to know what the authorities did with the information about Rivera; i.e. give me a more complete ending.
Narrative mode: 3rd person. Kindle count length: 4,698 (548 KB) 387 pages. Swearing language: strong including religious swear words but rarely used. Sexual language: strong. Number of sex scenes: 4. Setting: current day Louisiana and Iraq. Copyright: 2013. Genre: romantic suspense.
I fell for the hot bodied and well equipped Matt instantly. I was upset how badly he treated Evie when he was seventeen. In fact, I wanted to kick him in the ass, more than once, for her when he returned home.
Since Matt entered the black ops unit after high school, Evie took a lot of battle flack from the other hometown kids. However, instead of making her vulnerable and weak, it strengthened her.
Evie would do anything to save her younger sister who goes missing, even teaming up with the boy who shamed her. As the story progresses, Matt and Evie's passions rise to the surface as they conspire to bring her sister home.
Hot Pursuit is a good title for the book with action, deceit, intrigue, and steaming scenes mixed in for good measure.
I really felt conflicted with this book. I'm a die hard fans of romance-suspense genre, and this series was recommended by many people, including some of my favourite authors. The premise of the book was good, but somehow I just could not "connect" to the story and the characters. I really can't pinpoint what it was that don't click for me. Maybe because the suspense part was not developed enough, a bit jumpy, kinda lame. Or maybe because the characters were not strong enough but too emotional. I didn't really like the heroine, her pity party was too exhausting. And I didn't like the hero, he just couldn't get his mind set and pursue it. Too flippant.
Well, this is her first HOT book so I gave it the benefit of the doubt, especially due to the raving reviews. Seriously, if this series not already in its 10th book (that could be translated to high demand of series continuation), I would not read the next book. I'll try, maybe her next books in this series will be better.
