Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Chess and Finn story. They meet when Chess is hired to photograph a charity calendar for Finn's professional football team. They instantly bump heads, but for the first time in a long time Finn felt he was treated as a person and not as the celebrity he is and this draws him to her. The meet again, and decide to start up a friendship. The friendship turns into living together, and that turns into something more and they fall in love. There is some personal baggage that both of them have to deal with, some sexy times, a few laugh out loud moments...and they get a HFN ending.
POV: This alternated between Chess and Finn POV.
Overall Pace of Story: Good until the end. The ending felt rushed, but I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well otherwise.
Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.
H rating: 4 stars. Finn. I liked him. He was hot, sweet, and funny.
h rating: 4 stars. Chess. I liked her sassy, independent ways. I appreciated that she knew she couldn't emotionally handle a ONS and that she didn't fall into a pile of mush and have sex right away anyways like some of these hs seem to do.
Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed
Heat level: Hot. They have some hot tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story.
Descriptive sex: Yes
OW/OM drama: Yes
Sex scene with OW or OM: No
Closure: This (again) didn't have enough closure for me. I felt like the ending was rushed and it didn't give us any closure as to how some of their big relationship issues that they faced were worked out. I would call this a HFN ending.
How I got it: I paid the $4.99 on Amazon for it.
“She isn’t the sweetly pretty or stunning beautiful kind of woman I usually spend time with. She’s severe, elegant. It would be easy for me to say she isn’t my type. But I’m fairly certain that goes both ways. And I’m beginning to think my “type” has just changed."
They are absolute complete and polar opposites, yet so incredibly perfect for one another. The authors writing style is elegant, easily read and the story is really well done. I'm a sucker for a good sports romance, and this was the perfect kind with not a lot of angst, but just enough to keep me turning pages until I was done. It was a really fun read and I fell in love with all the awesome side characters too! The others in the football team also have books, so I'm looking forward to reading all their stories also.
The banter and chemistry is awesome. Both of those elements in this story really fit well together. The two characters balanced each other out and made getting to know them, fun. Their romantic build-up was great.
“Finn, what am I going to do with you?” His smile is an easy glide, but his eyes hold mine a beat too long. “Keep me. I’m pretty sure I’m good for no one else.”
This is definitely one of those light hearted, fun, sexy, weekend reads that I promise will leave you smiling. It's the 4th book in a series of standalone, and I'll tell you now that I will be getting to every single one of those bad boys ASAP.
What begins as a snarky and somewhat combative relationship turns into a beautiful friendship that slowly leads to the real kind of love they were both looking for. Friendship is easy, romance takes work, and happily ever after takes commitment. Both Finn and Chess are in for the long haul and they are both going to win in the game of life.
Once again Kristen Callihan has delivered an entertaining and emotional story that keeps the readers connected to the main characters and to the series. I absolutely loved this book.
