Editorial Reviews

Review

[T]here's nothing here you haven't heard before, though it's certainly pleasant listening to no-frills, harmonica-based blues. Little Mike's songwriting mines age-old themes ... and while the arrangements of the songs are solid, the style is always familiar, whether a ballad ... 12-bar blues ... or a jump tune.

If Little Mike doesn't take any chances, he does at least know the ropes. The vocals aren't always pretty, the harp playing sometimes lacks fluidity, and the keyboards need to be more conspicuous to give this band's sound some variety. But the guitar lines are clean and the beat is catchy. -- Living Blues

I cried the day I heard Paul Butterfield died. His music lives on tho. Once I discovered Little Mike and The Tornadoes I felt much better because the excitement and excellent harmonica work of Little Mike captures the same tasteful playing. He gives the reeds a work out that leaves you sweating just listening to it. Whew! Go cat go! The rest of the band are in excellent form here as well. I also own "Heart Attack" by these cats and I would be hard-pressed to tell you which I like more. If you love great harp work, good vocals and a hot band to back them up then don't miss out! I haven't heard anything yet by this group that I don't like. Tasty licks throughout, ear candy to any Blues fan.

I first heard this band in a small blues bar in Vegas in June, 98. I bought Hot Shot, I wore it out, I need a new one, and I have to order more for friends that have heard it. You can't go wrong with Little Mike and the Tornadoes!!!

It used to be true that you could tell where a Blues artist came from by listening to their tone and style. Since the advent of the recorded era and the ever-spreading influence of the major Blues styles, great Chicago-style Blues players have spring up from New York and Florida to California, Japan and Europe. Little Mike and the Tornadoes is a good example.
Little Mike Markowitz was born in Queens, New York, but his harmonica palying sounds as if he spent his entire life on Chicago's South Side. The players on this recording are as tight as any neighborhood band working to pay the rent and put food on the table. Mike has obviously done a hell of lot of listening. His harmonica playing is tight and has a great tone.
For fans of Chicago-style Blues playing, this is CD is definitely worth a listen.

First saw Little Mike and the Tornadoes in Orlando, Fla. and they Rocked the House! Aspiring Blues artists can only hope to be equal, nothing more. Buy all Their CD's and you will get the dullest party jumpin'. Outstandinding!
