Product Description

The HS18NGRFKIT satellite dish heater by Hot Shot is the all-in-one solution for keeping ice and snow from building up your satellite dish. The satellite dish heater works by a thermostat built into the heating element itself. When the temperature reaches just above freezing, the heating element will turn on and provide heat to the surface of the dish then will turn off when the dish has reached a warm enough temperature to shed the offending snow and ice.

I was a little apprehensive at first about buying a satellite dish heater because I never had to use one in the five years of my experience with satellite dishes. I have a 30 inch fta dish for international channels and am also a subscriber to Dish Network. Whenever my 30 inch dish would get snow on it, I would simply stick my head out the window and wipe it off with a mop. And my Dish Network 18 inch dish was pitched almost straight up and down so it never accumulated snow. Recently I had my Dish Network dish changed to the 1000.4 dish which points at different satellites than the dish 500 (18 inch) and is pointed up very high , so I knew I might have a problem with snow. So after installing the heater on the back of the dish I waited for snow. Today it snowed and I have absolutely no snow accumulation. Amazing! So I highly recommend this product for those persons who have snow problems. I think it is worth the money.

Normally very effective in keeping the dish clear of snow and ice. Occasionally during extremely heavy snowfall periods it will have a little trouble keeping up with the snow buildup.

I bought the Hotshot heater and had it installed on my DIRECTV dish to solve a long-standing problem with satellite signal loss during snowstorms. My dish is 35 feet off the ground, so I opted to have a roofer do the installation. Technically the temperature is supposed to be above 50F for good adhesion to the dish, but we took our chances on a 40F day. He climbed on the roof while I kept the heater element warm inside and then I handed it up to him when he had wiped the dish down with cleaner. The element is super light material with adhesive backing and it stuck onto the dish just fine in spite of the cold outside temperature. There is a super long cable that goes from heater element on the dish down to the transformer. I only needed about 10 feet of the cable, so I used wire cutters to shorten it and strip the ends and then connected it to the transformer and handed it up to the roofer. The whole installation took less than 20 minutes. The biggest challenge of the installation was trying to figure out where to put the transformer, since it needs an outlet and is not UL rated for outdoor use. I have now used the HotShot heater in November, December and January with heavy snow and ice. My experience is that the heater keeps the dish snow free during snowstorms where it would have lost signal in the past, but does not handle "storm of the decade" blizzards. We lost the signal for a couple of hours during the last blizzard, but had it back well before morning so the heater ultimately did what it was supposed to do. Not perfect, but the best solution I have found so far.

No more dropped reception - use it on a dish installed at a remote location at the 8,000 foot elevation that normally gets alot of snow and dropped signals - solved the problem.

Works like a champ. After installation which was not too difficult we just turn it on when we know it's going to snow. We don't have snow that often so no need to leave it on, but it low wattage, so if you do need to leave it on, go for it.

I was climbing up on the roof to clear the dish ever snow storm we had. I was almost ready to go back to cable. This has worked great I haven't had to get out the ladder sence I hook up the heater.

I purchased this product and risked life and limb to install it on my satellite dish. It worked for one winter then died. Horrible.

Easy to install, works great. No longer have to go out and knock the snow off. No more program interruptions.
