A new 2-CD/1-Blu-ray Audio deluxe edition that includes the original studio album, ten previously unreleased live recordings, as well as hi-res and 5.1 mixes. Presented in an 11 x 11 hardbound book, the set also features rare and unseen photos from the era, a replica tour book, and three stand-alone posters. The collection also marks the debut of ten live tracks that were recorded during the band s three-night stand at the Los Angeles Forum in October 1976. The concert recordings which were recorded about a month before the album came out features one of the first ever live performances of Hotel California and New Kid In Town along with other Eagles classics including Already Gone, Take It To The Limit, and Witchy Woman. The Blu-ray Audio disc that accompanies HOTEL CALIFORNIA: DELUXE EDITION features the 5.1 Surround Sound mix originally released on DVD-A in 2001 along with a hi-resolution, 192 KHz/24-Bit stereo mix.

My review is for the 2 CD Expanded Edition. The original album sounds good. I think it is the same remaster they used though for the 1999 single edition album. I have that one as well and it sounds identical. It's in a regular jewel case though.
I looked at the writing, etc. on back and it said "Digitally Remastered by Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound, NYC, March 1999."
I took a picture of it to add to this review.
The Live CD is what I wanted for this set and it sounds good, although I would have hoped it was more than the 10 listed. Still, I didn't pay that much for it, so I am happy about that. I will not pay $80 or more for the deluxe.
I highly recommend this edition if you don't already have the 1999 CD previously, unless you want the live disc, like me.
Who turned down the Rhythm Section?? Muted and regulated to minor background fill.
The tonal balance is shifted to BRIGHT, Upper Range, part of the spectrum, though exceptionally clean (clipped)…
Background material shouldn’t Drown out the Foreground…(DUH)
Just because you can alter the sound…why??...this was a HUGE seller as was…I doubt this Less Engaging Mix would have topped the charts…
One disk was Deeply scratched and unplayable…
What were the Packaging Team thinking when affixing the removable discs with a rubber(like) center plug… with no “release”, impossible to remove disk, without deforming the discs (mine cracked - stupid design)…????
No amount of once viewed, then to storage, booklets and art can undo the damage done to this ONCE Fantastic music…
Note to mixing engineer…don’t quit your day job...
What was your source material? At this price I paid, it should be ID’d Clearly on the Product Description that it was Not Recorded from the ORIGINAL TAPES…or that you decided to Obscure the Original RHYTHM SECTION.
And I Was So Looking Forward To The Anticipated Blu-Ray, Audiophile Release…
This is the price, we, with true audiophile systems, pay for commercially hurried crap that disrespects its fans…and their equipment...and Wallets to boot.
** if you can live with a soft bottom & somewhat exaggerated mid to top, this is clean and clear... looses some musicality
