Top customer reviews
Can it be powered by battery? NO. Has to be plugged in via a 9-volt center-negative adapter. And it does not come with the adapter.
How much recording time? Around 15 minutes.
How many overdubs is it capable of? Infinite, or as many as you want before the sound completely muds out from overdubbing too much.
How small? It will probably be the smallest pedal you ever own. But the pedal compensates for this by having some actual physical weight to it. It does not feel cheap and you can feel the weight when held in the hand. Pedal comes with adhesive pads for floor or pedalboard use. And yes, it will stay put.
Better than a Ditto? Yes. More recording time and has both input and output controls, which is more than the Ditto has.
Is the "Tempo" feature any good? Not really. You will hear digital nastiness with it, and you can't loop while it's engaged. "Tempo" is a novelty as best, but not really useful.
What's the sample rate? 44.1kHz. Before you say, "Eww!" to that, bear in mind the BOSS RC-3 Loop Station, which is more than double the price of the Wally, also records in 44.1kHz. This isn't a multi-track recorder. It's a looper. 44.1kHz is fine for what it is. If you want higher than that, use a computer.
Will it work with any kind of sound? Yes. Guitars or keyboards or bass or beatboxing your own voice or whatever sound you put through it, Wally will loop it without issue.
Con 1: The "Tempo" knob can sometimes be hit with your foot. Solved with a piece of tape over it, but still.. kinda annoying.
Con 2: I really wish the clear knob actually *wasn't* smooth and had detents in it. Action of the knob is superb, but I'm just being nitpicky and would want more tactile action on that knob in particular.
I give it a 5-of-5 because it's stupidly easy to use, built well and does exactly what you expect it to. Wally does fall into the "just works" category. It's not fancy, but it's not supposed to be. It's just a solid-constructed looper that does the job it was designed to do and does it well, which is all anyone wants out of a pedal.
The best compliment I can give the pedal is that you don't think about it when using it. You just use it and concentrate more on your music-making. That's the tech working for you and not you for it.
I go online to see if someone has got the same issue, and found this:
One reviewer says "I really loved this pedal, I first bought mine back in late april, the pedal worked fine for about 3 weeks before it started making very loud noises mid overdub and froze in audio. You can only imagine how that sounded through an amplifier and started to do it consistently. I had it returned and replaced within a couple weeks and I was so happy to have it back again until BAM, 2 days later it does the exact same thing. Returning it again and getting my money back this time. The pedal works great it you can keep it working.
More comments on the same issue, so I regret having spent my money on this piece of garbage. Avoid like the plague, and go somewhere else.
This stomp falls into the "KISS" category, keep it simple and stupid. However, it has amazing features, including the quality of the sample. It has 2 separate levels, one for input level, and the other is for the output. Also you can tweak the tempo of the sample playback, so you can go do freaky stuff Floyd style.
In functionality, I give it a 5 star rating. My only con is the size of this little dude, kinda hard and painful to stomp it barefooted!
Packaging is pretty cool, it comes with a simple manual (still reading!), some stickers, and also a rubber pad-sticker, and a velcro pad-sticker, so you can place it in a pedal board or in the floor.
Dont be fooled by the picture, this dude is not plastic, is metalesque!
It also features some cool led lights!
Share your opinion, or send me some questions, I'm still fooling around with it.
Cute pedal and was great while it worked but it doesn't work anymore (Apparently neither does Hotone Customer Service).
FWIW: This is my first ever negative review for a product on Amazon
UPDATE (4-7-15): Noah from Hotone contacted me a couple weeks ago and arranged for the replacement of my faulty unit through their US Distributor (Samson). I shipped my unit back to them and although they said it would take 4-6 weeks for turnaround I had my replacement within a week! I have waited to post my followup review until I've had a couple weeks to play with the replacement and happily I can report that it works as advertised with NO annoying static events! Hopefully this new unit continues to perform reliably well into the future. I will certainly report back if it ever fails again...fingers crossed!
I have updated my rating to a 3 star up from 1. Pedal works great now...thanks for standing behind your product Hotone (Noah)!
